What broad heads should I use and what are the ups and downs of them?

Whatever you want, it's all personal preference and all will kill when put in the right place! Do you want to shoot a fixed blade or a mechanical? What's your arrow setup/weight and FOC? What's your bow set up?

Man, talk about a vague question. If you want to know what broadheads will work best for you, we need to know your bow's specs, your DL, your DW, and what kind of hunting you plan to do.

With zero information, my suggestion would be EDIT: scratch that. I can't confidently give a good suggestion with zero information.

Any made in USA, durable, sharp, fixed head that flys well from your bow.

I'm whitetail hunting out of both a stand and a blind my draw weight is 70 pounds and length is 30 inch but a 31 inch arrow looking at it being about 500 grain without the arrow head and Im not sure what kind of broad head I want.

500 grain arrow without the broadhead is a very heavy arrow so I gather you are going for high momentum/kinetic energy and penetration. With that said take a look at some trusty fixed blade heads like Solid Broadheads, VPA's, and Slick Tricks. With a 70 lbs draw and a long 31" arrow I would just make sure you are shooting the correct spine also.

I shoot Gold Tip Kinetics in a 300 Spine with 60gr insert/weights and a 100 gr Solid Broadhead, complete arrow weight of 495gr and as 13% FOC. Hard hitting set up with great penetration!

What arrows are you shooting with your set up? I'm shooting the same length in arrow and DL at #65.

I like the expandable Wasp Jak-knifes. 2" and two blade.

    Thanks for the info.

I'd suggest Slick Tricks if you are wanting to to fixed blade or Grim Reapers if you are wanting to go mechanical. You certainly have the KE for mechanical broadheads and those are the two I stand behind. I haven't tried many other mechanical heads but I know Rage is a good brand as well.

In terms of the Slick Tricks, I like their low profile design and they are quality made. My dad, sister, and wife all use Slick Tricks and if I ever decide to stop using mechanical, those are what I will use too.

If you want a mechanical I suggest the new nap spitfire doublecross and for a fixed blade I would suggest any kind of slick trick.

    Here are some options:

QAD Exodus, Slick Trick, Wasp Drone, NAP Thunderhead Razor

NAP Killzone, Rage Hypodermic, NAP spitfire

    GraveDigger Hybrid, Grim Reaper

I prefer fixed but with that arrow weight, bow weight and draw length you could shoot whatever you want, fixed or mechanical. my criteria would be sharp and reliable and then go with what interests you. I think Justin shoots that arrow weight and he enjoys a lot of venison. you might check what he's using.

Can you tune a bow or are you having someone tune it for you? The reason I begin with that question is that fixed heads have a LONG and proven track record, but require good tuning in order to fly as accurate as possible. That is why so many gravitate to a mechanical......since with most you can screw them on and anticipate pretty decent flight. You are not, however, assured of maximum accuracy with a mechanical from a bow that is not well tuned and thus going the extra step is worth it in the long run. There are many excellent fixed BH's......Magnus Stingers/Buzzcut/Black Hornet, Slick Trick, VPA, Solids, NAP Hellrazors, Trophy Taker Shuttle-T's, Exodus, Muzzy, DRT, etc, so it is a matter of testing and affirming results in the field.
