I'm going turkey hunting in the morning. My grandpa wants me to use a gun but he's letting me use a compound bow... So my question is, is it worth the extra challenge to shoot a turkey with a bow? I've never shot anything with my compound bow. What do you think?

If you have been shooting that bow and are dialed in then yes. If you are picking up the bow for the first time in a while Id say no.
I agree with the others. At the same time, it is still a lot of fun using a gun. No shame in that if you aren't quite ready to use a bow.
Why is shooting a gun different than a bow? Is your family shooting at Turkeys over 75 yards? I bet their shot is less than 50 yards. Trust me, I respect everything my Grandfather taught me, but as a true conservationist, I haven't met anybody hunting with a high power rifle for Turkeys.
I know you are just looking for advice but you need to figure this out for yourself. Not everyone cares about shooting animals with a bow and that's fine. I've never been one to think that bowhunting is better than gun hunting...it's just different. It's all about what you want.
Bow hunting turkey, or any animal for that matter is harder. I've killed 2 turkey with a gun in 2 shots this season. I've killed 1 with my bow and shot at 4. I've been busted 0 times with a gun and 3 times with my bow. It's just harder and to me more satisfying because of the added challenge. I enjoy taking home any animal but I have a higher sense of accomplishment when it's with my bow.
I totally agree with drslyr on this. Don't get me wrong I love guns and shoot a lot, mainly due to me being military but to me there is something about being submerged into nature with a stick & string and beating these beautiful creatures on there turf and fooling all there senses with a bow. This is a quote from a child hood hero of mine "there's more fun in hunting with the handicap of the bow, than there is in hunting with the sureness of the gun" Fred Bear.
When it comes to turkey hunting its about the experience calling the birds in and having them communicate with you.. Your weapon of choice shouldn't matter. Like said above if you have your bow dialed in and you are comfortable with it, give it a try. If it doesn't work out, grab your shotgun and get it done with that.. Either way the end result is delicious turkey that is natural and actually taste like something!!.
Thanks everybody for the input... I'm going to use my bow for a while and if I don't have any luck then I will use my shotgun. I definitely don't want to miss out on another turkey! I got one earlier in the season and it tasted amazing! We had it mixed in with noodles.
Maybe I didn't word that correctly. A gun, or bow, require work before you take them to the field. I don't see why you would need to use one more than the other. Did you buy the bow to hunt, or just target shoot? Do you have the same shooting challenges with a bow, or a gun? Meaning, does your Grandpa want you shooting hundreds of yards, or will the Turkeys be at a comfortable distance you feel safe with? Dubbya's is correct, there are people who shoot at Turkeys with high power rifles (30-06, 7mm-08, 7mags, etc...) However, I just don't know that someone needs that much weapon. Again, just my opinion, and most definately wrong in some hunters eyes. Good luck and just create great memories.
