My 16 year old nephew wants a bow so he can go hunting with me. Any suggestions on a starter bow for him. Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
If he was younger I would certainly have suggestions for you but being that he is 16 think you will really need to take him out and have him try a bunch to see what fits him best and will be able to grow with him so he can get several years out of it.
Rick Go to Archerytalk.com a guy there has The Rock by Diamond for $300.00. I've shot and did a presentation for Bowtech & Diamond Archery on this quaint little bow .To this day I use this bow as a back up and have taken Moose and deer with it. He can grow with the bow also. Give it a look, best of luck getting him set up.I had to use it when Will was up here on his hunt and connected with a good buck on the scond day. Rocky
I'm a bit biased toward Bear bows, so I'll throw out a suggestion to take a look at the Bear Outbreak. It sports a huge range of draw weight (15-70 lbs) an draw length (16-30") options, so it can definitely grow with him. It's at least worth a look.
What kind of price range you looking at? If new the Obsession line of bows are the best out there this year IMO. Used, I would look at 7" brace and 33-35 axle to axle bows, something that ibos 300-330. Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2
Ok, I think we're going to go with Mission. He's comeing over Sat to go shoot the Riot, the Endeavor and the Craze.
The biggest issue with someone just getting into bow hunting is the debate on whether or not they are going to stick with it. It's humerus seeing someone put $1200 into a bow for a first time shooter and then they shoot it for 2 months and never pick it up again. My brother in laws cousin gave him a $1300 bow setup and my brother in law didn't shoot it but maybe twice. I would suggest looking into something easy to pull, forgiving and with enough speed for most north American game. I think something like a Hoyt Rampage XT or a PSE Brute would be a good choice. Both bows are shooting good IBO speeds at +320fps, smooth draw, forgiving with a +7 inch brace height and not very expensive.
