My wife and I are expecting and our due date it around end of Aug, early September. Bowhunting here in WI is always mid September, how have others managed making time with a newborn/younger child? I'd miss being the in outdoors, but would find spending the time with my boy/girl a little more important, starting him/her off right by bringing them home in camo Thanks!
I didn't hunt for 10 years because I was too busy coaching football and basketball and doing stuff with the kids.
Tell her that your going hunting and if she needs any help that you will be home right after dark when you get home
It's all about time management man. Set specific dates that you will hunt and go this way things are planned in advance, the wife knows, and you can have you hunting peace. It all works out. Your friendly neighborhood Bow Hunter
Congrats! 1) Accept that you will hunt less and that the trade off of being a father is worth it 2) Especially during that first few years, bew willing to give your wife an equal amount of time off from Mom duty for the amount of time you spend hunting. Sometimes this will be a date night, sometimes a girls night out, sometimes retail therapy. 3) justify future hunting purchases as prepping for when your child is old enough to join you. 4) accept that your wife will redecorate the kids room to equalize your hunting purchases 5) remind her that in the future, hunting with the kid will mean alone time for her, you have to keep up practice to make sure your Kid enjoys the experience Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Thanks guys, appreciating all the advice! The wife and I have been talking already about the season. She knows no matter what, boy or girl, I want them to experience the outdoors, firearm and archery safety, and get them out hunting. If it's not for them, it's not for them, but I want them to at least try.
A new inning in that "TEAM SPORT" called marriage. AWESOME!!!! Children are what life is all about. Now you are getting a hunting partner for life. Yes, you may miss a few days hunting but they will be grown and gone before you know it and you will still be hunting and you will likely be hunting with your new partner. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

I always tell a new parent to cherish your kids, they will be 18 before you know it. The time just seems to go faster and faster as they age.
Congrats! Yes, you will hunt less. That's just part of it. Especially the first year when you're trying to figure out how you're not going to break your first child. One thing that can help is finding something close to home to hunt. Even for me who hunts out my door, I typically hunt in areas that take me 30 minutes to over an hour to get to. This year I built a blind 80 yards from the Lodge. There were times that I was able to sneak out for quick hunts there when I would not have had time to get to other stands. My first year as a parent I hunted the least number of hours that I had since moving here. This past Fall was my second highest logged hours in the stand. In the end, you need to find out whats best for you and your family. Congrats to you too!
Congrats! Raising your first newborn can be challenging to say the least. It all depends on how needy your newborn is. Regardless of how much time you want to spend with your child, which will be a lot, there will still be occasions your wife and you need sometime together alone or by yourselves. Use those opportunities to do a little hunting. You'll just have to expect to not spend as much time hunting as you did. You'll find time to balance things out with what works best for you and the new family. Congrats again and good luck!
Thanks everyone for your input! I have been talking to a few people I know in the area that know of some public land that they can show me around. The land we usually hunt is about 2 hours away, so my wife might accept it a little more being closer to home. I do understand that we should allow for one another to have their time away, maybe I do some hunting and my wife has some girl time to herself or with her friends. Besides hunting, I don't do much else, besides the house work. We'll make it work! If not, I'll save the money this year, build myself a new blind for two in my down time for me and the new addition!
Congrats on the little one. You got a ground blind or box blind? If not might be time to add one. You can take them with you and get started early.
