So I'm starting out in this whole archery thing and I got a 4 pack of beman white box arrows. Will those work for whitetail or should I shell out the cash for some fmj's or something like that?

If the natives could do it hundreds of years ago with wood i think the beman's should do the trick

I started out with the Beman ICS bowhunters and am still using them. My 28" arrow comes out to 326 grains, including the 100 grain broadhead. Good mix of speed and weight, so I like them for the price. Done the job I needed done every time. In terms of the white box arrows, at 29.5", you'll have a 420 grain arrow, so should get good penetration with that heavier arrow, as long as your poundage is decent. Should work for whitetail just fine for a start.

As long as they fly where you want them to fly, they should work fine.

So I'm leaning towards g5 montec broadheads. Any reason I should go with something else?

You have no idea. There are endless choices and decisions to make. Montecs are great heads so are snuffers and so are about any other broadhead made by a reputable manufacturers. My choice is Slick Trick standards. As you will read on here there are endless debates on this head vs this head but it doesn't really matter as long as you do your job. That is until you get into huge expandables. Then you need to make sure you have enough arrow and bow behind the head.

Lol, I know the river is wide with choices, and people tend to put things on a pedestal. My bow is set to 70lbs and I have no problem pulling back. Leaning towards 125gr montecs

For elk though wouldn't a heavier head and heavier draw be best?

I use the G5 Montecs and have no complaints. Pulling 60lbs, taken 2 deer so far with them.

You're working out a lot of things and you'll get a lot of opinions to questions like this. Whichever BH you choose you owe it to yourself and your quarry to learn how to tune the bow with the heads you choose. There are many acceptable heads out there-the Montecs included. They have to fly straight and you have to put them in the right spot to get the results you want.
