Hi, myself and two other high school students are in a senior capstone engineering class and we are involved in a year long project focused on bow hunting. Specifically, our goal is to attempt to increase the recovery rates of big game animals for bowhunters. We would greatly appreciate it if you could take a quick, 8 question survey that we created to help us get a better understanding about wounding/recovering big game animals while bowhunting. Please let me know if you have any additional information about your experiences while bowhunting. Thank you for your time!

I took the survey. You might want to extend the sampling size from 1 year to something like 5 years. 1 year isn't much of a sample size when people typically only kill one or two deer a year.

As skywalker pointed out the sampling size is way to small. Result vary from year to year and a one year sampling would skew your results. For example some people may have a 100% recovery rate for 5 years an then on year 6 have a 50% recovery rate.

I'm with bucksnbears... nothing good can happen with the survey. No Thanks, stick with Engineering!

    Bowhunting survey

Thanks for taking the survey guys! I agree with you about increasing the sample size, but the reason for us only doing 1 year was that some people may not remember how many animals they have shot/recovered within the last 5 years which could alter the results. Also, we couldn't find any recent research or studies on wounding/recovering rates by bowhunters in recent years so the point of the survey was to conduct our own research on the topic. Thanks!

I took the survey and I see what your getting at but that isn't a good enough reason to conduct a bad survey. Most hunters remember most of their kills. Maybe not every single one to the T but most. For most of us it is a pretty big deal when we connect and the failures to find probably stick in our heads more than the full on successes. To really get good information you need to go at least 5 years, 10 would be way better. Anything less than 5 though should be met with a asterisk next to the information.

Did this student mention if he is a bowhunter? I'm not sure how an 8 question survey can really gather credible data.

It did cross my mind if this survey is a front for say, PETA, or other anti-hunting groups.

You clearly do not hunt. I remember every animal I have killed. I have been doing this for 20 years.
