I'm thinking about traveling to Ohio next hunting season to bow hunt. Is the public land worth hunting? If so what are some of the better areas. I'll be coming from Virginia.

Seems like Ohio gets more crowded each year, the past couple years have been packed in places that I never used to see any other hunters.

Ok. That's kind of what I figured. It's so many hunters here in Virginia that's why I'm trying to hunt somewhere that's not too far away. How is picking up some private land up there? Do land owners work with out of state people? Especially with some money in hand.

Absolute truth! I'm overwhelmed with east coast guys where I hunt... it's been especially brutal this season.

Yes to some degree, there is plenty of leasing taking place. You can also with some leg work find some access on private ground however keep in mind that if they let you they probably let others. Exclusivity tends to come at a cost. Lease prices in Ohio are about the worst. You will see crazy numbers being paid and asked is it within reasonable driving distance of population centers. Seems like every firemen and cop from Columbus or Cincinnati and his buddies have leased land. Plenty of pressure comes from guys in western PA and West Va as well.
I am just trying to paint a realistic picture.

I knocked on 4 doors in the last 8 days and was politely turned down each time. It's all about the $$ here.

Sounds like you have the same problem I have. Too much Pressure! The problem here in VA is people just walk around the woods for a hour and go home. Screws everything up when I get in the stand a hour before daylight with a bow in my hand. I'm just thinking about different options.

More than I can afford lol.. Just ran a quick search, but according to the first site I clicked on, $28.5/acre; making it the second highest price in the nation.
