Halon 5 is a 5" brace height bow and the Chill R is a 6" brace height bow. The Halon 6 would be the comparison between the two. I like the grip better on the Halon 6, but the overall weight and balance goes to the Chill R. I loved the Chill R when I shot it. Super smooth draw cycle, holds real well at full draw, and quiet at the shot while producing good speeds. Same can be said about the Halon just a bit heavier.

Not trying to steer you away but before you buy anything shoot a couple different brand bows. There are so many great options out there and one may feel better to you than the other. You won't know till you shoot them.

i agree with this. i have shot nothing but bowtech bows for the longest time. last yr i bought a new bow and shot several different brands and to my surprise i bought a hoyt. i thought i would never switch from bowtech and the bowtech i shot was a great bow but the hoyt blew me away at how it felt in my hand and how smooth the draw was. do yourself a favor and shoot several different bows you might just be surprised what you walk out of the store with

Tons of reviews online for both of these bows.... LOTS! I am currently shooting the Halon 6 and I'd say its one of the, if not the best bows I've shot in awhile. I'm pretty in love with it. Don't over look the Creed though. I sold mine and am now buying another. Hopefully I win the one I'm currently bidding on on Ebay. (3 more days ;) Ah hell.... who am I kidding, I'm GONNA win it ;p

    Must be!
If it was time to retire my z7x I'd probably go with a Halon 6 but I just re strung her and she's still a great bow.
That being said everyone I know with a Chill LOVES it.

    Good luck with your search!

If you are anything like me, I would stay clear of the 5" brace height bows because in general they can be touchy if your form is not consistent. I really like the Mathews line of bows and have owned several of them. In the past four to five years I began shooting bows from other manufacturers and quickly found out that there are a lot of other bows out there that are just as good if not better than Mathews. I now am shooting a Bear Motive-6 bow and totally love it because it fits me in every way and performs great. I still like Mathews and am currently planning of shooting the Halon-6 after season is over and may buy one, but I also have a hand full of other bows that I am going to shoot as well. You owe it to yourself to shop around and I wish you the best of luck with whatever you buy. Always remember "haters are going to hate" and there will always be someone out there bashing Mathews, Hoyt, Prime, PSE etc but it is all good. By the way, I have shot the Chill and was totally impressed so I don't think that you can go wrong with either bow.

The Chill R is the "go to" bow of the owner of the Mathews dealership where I shoot. Says something about the bow when he could shoot any bow of the three major brands he sells but he sticks with the Chill R.
