It's my first year ever hunting (as I'm sure a few of you know by my constant learning questions) and my brother-in-law who has Gun hunted all his life tagged out yesterday. He sent me a text offering to let me use a few of his Stand locations if I was interested. It's private land and about an hour from my place but he's bagged bucks on this land every year that I've known him. I guess the question is am I cheating by going to a place that some one else has scouted, located key Stand locations and recognized am and pm travel routes. At the same time the clock is ticking here in Maine and I really really want to put something in the freezer for the winter!

That is a true blessing. Take advantage thankfully.

No, not cheating. He is willing to let you go, so take him up on it. You should however, pay attention to what makes these places good spots and be able to apply it to some degree where you hunt and hopefully take home a deer in the process.

IMO, no, you are not cheating. Even though you are hunting established stands, on property that may be familiar to you, there is still work to be done.

You must be on stand when the deer are moving and within range. You still have to defeat their superior sense of smell. You must remain still so your movement doesn't give you away. When a shot opportunity presents itself, you still have to make a good shot and recover the animal.

You're not cheating....... You are just increasing your odds of a successful hunt. Go for it..... Be safe, best of luck, and enjoy the experience!

My place is small but packed with deer that really don't mind humans. It's also legal to feed here so I do that. I know I'm really spoiled here with deer but I take advantage if it's legal or if the opportunity presents itself

No, it's not cheating at all. It would be no different than somebody going on an out of state hunt with an Outfitter. This is land that is not really near you, and land that you are not familiar with, so you HAVE to have insight from those who are. It's not like I can just fly to Alberta to scout land for myself. lol Take advantage of the opportunity, and be thankful for it!

Cheating means you are breaking a rule or deceiving someone/something. Using someone's stand with their permission is not breaking any rules and you obviously aren't deceiving him because he offered :) . Go hunt and have fun!

It's not cheating. There's always the chance that you could see nothing. But hopefully that's not the case.

its not cheating. take advantage of the great offer from a generous friend. and as noted earlier, take note of any sign that makes that a good spot at those given times. it could be a learning experience for you. and hopefully you can tag out on a great buck in the process! good luck and hunt safe!

Definitely not cheating. As others have said your not guaranteed a deer. Its not like he has one tied to a tree for you. I have several established stands where I hunt but I still have to put on work to take a deer home. Go hunt learn from it and good luck

Cheating is sitting someone's stand without permission, trespassing, or baiting where it is illegal. I have a longtime friend with a 100 acre farm that has established stands and when I hunt there, I don't go in and set up my own. I simply find out what and where he is getting action from his trail cams and then pick a stand site based on that intel. Even so, most of the time I don't get a shot or even see deer. Baiting is more of an ethical issue with many hunters than simply using a given stand that is established.

Hell no - I'm excited & looking forward to it. Fresh scrapes & rubs were reported today (can't hunt on Sundays in Maine).

Its great you think that way. Some people would expect it. I would however be very thankful for the opportunity and offer to help do something with the property in return. Also ask what he does or does not want shot. Follow the rules, be thankful and respect his stand sites. Definitely not cheating and if he is tagging out consistently maybe you can learn a few things from him.
