Milkweed Windicator works great!

So not sure where I saw this before perhaps on some hunting show or maybe even Bowhunt or Die, but I came across a milkweed pod scouting a hayfield the other day. I used the seeds as a Windicator last evening on my hunt and they worked awesome! Amazing to see these little seeds float down in the wind and can show you where your scent is basically going. They'll follow little swirls and everything so gives you a better perspective of what your scent is likely doing.

I also have to say I borrowed my bro-in-laws Ozonics for the hunt and had 4 deer all downwind of me at 25 yards not spook. They clearly knew something was off. Not sure if they could smell the ozone or me, but they didn't freak out at all. They sniffed the wind a lot as they were trying to detect something. I saw two mature does, one 4 pt. and one 2.5 yo 8 pt. Each and every one of them presented several shot opportunities downwind. I was a doubter, but I might be sold.

Agreed, I love that you can see what the wind does 20 or 30 yards from you, no powder can do that. Great for seeing thermals when hunting next to a hill or standing water.

 

I've been using milkweed seeds for years. We've always had a large flower bed. Milkweed is the main source for raising Monarch Butterflies. After they are gone I take the seeds. No foolin' on which way the wind is. You can also watch them for quite a while to see if there is any swirling going on near you.
Another good quality is you get more of them every year.

 

They do work pretty good. I was using one of those powders one time when I had deer about 45 yards in front of me. I wanted to check and see if I was going to get busted by the wind. Instead of getting busted by the wind, I got busted for the little white cloud the powder created. I never thought that would happen.

You're telling me a stupid plant seed works better than my $5.99 bottle of wind checker maximum strength powder?

 

I have used the milkweed for many years. Don't forget to spread the seeds out for next years crop.

If your talking the about the white fluffy things with the seed on the end? Last weekend I had 2 does just chewing those down like they were in a candy store. They must've been there for an hour.
