Setting up mid day?

I was planning on going out Friday morning early and setting up on a spot I found and sitting that morning. However, circumstances are preventing me from doing so now. I'm a going to hunt this spot Saturday morning, but I'm wondering about sitting up midday Friday? How many people do this and hunt it the next morning?

 

Opening weekend I did just thathad had deer within shooting range, got busted once by a doe, the others were little guys, do it, cant kill em sitting in the house!!

 

Do it, you will be surprised how much movement happens between 10am and 2pm.

 

Ya I don't think you'll harm anything. Try not to cause too much noise but I think you'd be fine setting up mid day and hunting the next morning.

 

I wouldn't, That's one more trip into the woods to spread scent.

 

Until I start to seeing "rutting" activity mid day hunts are a waste of time. @ least where I hunt. I run quite a few trail cams & they don't lie.

I think you're fine doing a mid day set up. I've set up stands that I also have trail cams near, and I've had deer walk by the same evening, the next morning etc. Just be scent and noise conscious especially if you're close to bedding areas. Like I mean think about your wind even for set up. If your wind is blowing towards a bedding area for set up I'd probably hold off.
Best time to do set up for me is mid day on a windy rainy day.

 

Go for it Shane.. Not that it matters but Friday is showing a major movement period from noon till 2PM..

 

I wouldn't think twice about it. Do it quick and get out. I think it's a good trade off considering you can get in for you hunt quite, and in sweaty from hanging a stand

 

I'm only concerned about bumping deer out when I go to set up. Personally I would prefer doing it during day light. Walnuts are covering the ground and tracks were everywhere last weekend but we didn't bump anything then. However, I had my 6 year old with me and may have bumped them way before we even got there.

 

If I do bump deer should I seek out other places

 

Midday is your best bet to move stands, setup, etc. Its usually when the movement is at a low for the day. However, it also depends on the area. If its a bedding area, than I would not setup in there at any time other than before first light or even overnight.

 

This was my way of thinking, as well.

 

I've kicked up deer in this very location in the past and never saw deer there again during that season, but the fact is I've almost always kick up deer here. Usually when I'm leaving from a morning sit

 

You have to set up sometime and deer are curious creatures and may not spooky as has as you think. I logged for years and have felled trees in the fall and have deer come up and feed on the top while skidding the logs out. Several times I have set up stands and trimmed shooting lanes then sit and have deer come through a few hours later. I have had deer come through while I was setting up.
Set up and hunt when you can. It may surprise you.

 

Well then you know where they bed! if you are kicking them out when you leave in the morning then you are set up in wrong spot. You need to be on the trails from food to bed in the morning and either you're setting up in there bedding area or you are on the wrong side and need to move closer to the food. Then get in the stand early and catch them walking back to bed first thing.
