Go ahead hate me for baiting deer. But I'm 14 don't have much money. I have a bag of granola that no one one in my house wants to eat. So basically, do think the deer will eat it? A while ago i crushed up granola bars and mixed with corn and it worked.... What do you think?
What I found that works best is oatmeal and some glitter. They love it. .. oh wait my bad that's reindeer on Christmas Eve. It could work on whitetail though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Does it have oats in it? Deer like to eat oats. It may help if you put it out when you are actually out hunting, otherwise it would be a waste.
I think yes it would work however sometimes deer are picky when new food is made available in their environment they aren't used to getting. I wouldn't expect to put the pile of granola out there and have deer flocking to it like an alfalfa field. The deer will kinda have to stumble across it and just because you think it's enticing to them, doesn't mean they'll just walk up to it and start scarfing it down. But sounds like it's worth a try rather than it rotting in your cupboard.
I think he's asking what's the purpose of baiting. If you don't have money, you can be like most people and kill them without bait. Corn is very cheap if you are set on baiting. Unless you are living among a family of Ogres, I can't see a pile of granola lasting much more than a week. Especially since more than just deer will eat it. To answer your question, no I do not think it will be very effective. Just hunt.
The answer to your question is yes they will eat it. As to the ethical question of baiting I personally don't see the difference between putting corn on the ground or putting out food plots. You are basically doing the same thing. Putting something out which attracts a deer with something it will eat. Some areas have regulations concerning baiting deer so please check your local laws and follow them.
Eat that granola, get some energy from it, and then go scout out where the deer walk. Once you do that, set up and kill them.
I've also had good luck with molasses & peanut butter & molasses is CHEAP & the deer can smell it a mile away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In response to the original question, yes I believe they will. I used a bag of turkey feed the had some type of granola and other things in it, (in a state legal to bait) and set up a camera. I had deer in there morning and evening until it ran out. So definitely try it, the worst that can happen is the deer don't like it and you still have granola sitting there. Who knows, maybe it will be a huge hit and you'll end up making a granola bait and striking it rich haha!
This is a forum my friend. I shared from my experiences, and gave an opinion. As did you. If I need some advice from the real pros, I'll just go to southern Illinois outdoors next time. Please, share some more pearls of wisdom that you have acquired in those 3 more years, because I'm open Thanks!
