I've always thought Cabelas offered a more higher quality products. I hope BP keeps the difference.

I never heard anything of it - but good. Maybe Cabela's will start carrying more Women's clothing like BP does.

I hope they keep it two separate brands.
I have one of each in my area and I prefer the cabela's. I hate to think what would happen if all the sudden they were both bass pro's and carrier the exact same stuff, one would go out of business which would make it a 50/50 I'd have to drive to the further one.

Not a fan. I have a Bass Pro near me. But I have always preferred the Cabelas atmosphere and camo selection over Bass Pro. It will suck if all Cabelas get converted to Bass Pro.

i just did some google-foo and it appears like they are going to keep the brands separate, i mean they'll be some co mingling I'm sure.
my guess is it'll be a Chevy - Cadillac thing, they're both GM

or a Dodge Ram - Fiat thing, they both fancy pants Italian vehicles

I saw this recently. I found it funny because both Cabela's and Bass Pro opened up in this area within the last couple years. Cabela's opened about two years ago and Bass Pro opened earlier this year. After reading the news, I wondered if both stores would be kept opened.

I personally don't like the big business trend that is happening in the hunting industry. It is what it is I guess...

Being from Sidney it affects me pretty close as a lot of friends and family work for Cabela's. From what I have been hearing it sounds a lot like what you all have been reading. I think a Cadillac - Chevy thing as NebMo said might be pretty accurate.

Was just thinking the same thing, I like cabelas better because BP seems more like a gimmick store to me, but I guess we will see what becomes of them?

when possible I do like to buy my archery stuff at my local ma and pa shop but sometimes its simply not doable, they dont carry what I want or they are 10-15% more in cost

I can appreciate what you're saying and for the most part I don't disagree, but sometimes a nice large box retail store is what is needed.

Hopefully it'll keep prices around the same point instead of jacking up the price now that there is no competition for one or the other.

Less competition rarely EVER means lower prices.

Agreed. The pricing of many products at both businesses were not very competitive to begin with. The only reason I still shop at Cabela's is because I have my one and only credit card through them (got it in college to build credit). Once I build up enough Cabela's bucks, then I consider using it (usually it's for consumables like body wash, deodorant, Slick Trick replacement blades, etc.).

Everything else can usually be found cheaper elsewhere (non Cabela's brand of course).

Actually they still have competitors. You can buy most stuff online cheaper than either of those stores

Agreed, if I am gonna spend solid money or more than on Amazon I'm going to local bow shops and supporting them.

Unless the merger will somehow result in them putting a store closer than an hour from me I won't really be impacted. If I can't get it from my local pro shop, I'll have to stick with Fleet Farm, Gander Mountain or ****s along with Amazon.

I hope the Cabela's stores stick around. My girlfriend really enjoys the camo line for women, and I think it's much higher quality and better fit than what I've seen at the local F&S. I don't use any of their stuff because I buy 99% online, but it is convenient when you need something in a pinch.

I don't see this affecting the consumer much, but it will certainly affect all of the manufacturers/suppliers. The bigger the company the more they squeeze them for pricing and lower their margins. On top of that both BPS and Cabela's continue to expand their in-house branded merchandise and take floor space away from people whom they've used to build their business. It is what it is, however I would expect to continue seeing more brands sell direct to the consumer with expanded product lines that can't be found on the floor in a big box store.

Such is the world we live in today.
