When and how often do you wax the string on your bow? Is there a wax that seems to do better or is it all just wax? Thanks
I wax my string every time my bow is shot... I use the Scorpion Venom wax because its softer and gives you a small leather patch to apply the wax with... so many people put wax on the string like they are putting blistex on their lips and this is the incorrect way.. You want to actually heat the wax up with friction so it melts and gets in-between the fibers of the string. that's where that little leather applicator comes in VERY handy.... just rub the string fairly fast till the wax melts into the string... the more you wax the better life you'll get out of your string... I wax the string after i'm done shooting... right before I put my bow away either from hunting or just shooting around.
I rub it in with my fingers and do it about once a month if I am shooting regularly or if after hunting in any inclement weather. I've had great success with "STRINGSNOT."
Once a month and massage it in with your fingers. You want to feel some eat when you do this that way you know you are melting it in
+1 for the Venom string wax. I dont use the leather pad anymore but my fingers.. i will rub it between them till it gets warm then apply it to the string.
I use the Bohning Text Tite about once month. I use my wife's hair dryer on low heat to melt and rub the wax in that way. I like to feel a little tack to the string, so when I don't feel that I re-apply.
How many shots do you put on the strings and cables? I use vapor trail not cheap strings but every other year seems reasonable.
Wow most of you guys wax way too often. And a hair dryer??? I wax mine when they start to look a little dry....weeks.... several hundred shots. Had my HTR over a year. Maybe 4000 shots. Waxed 4 or 5 times. Too much wax is an issue too. Collects dirt and increases string weight (slower arrow - for you speed is everything guys). I bet I can scrape of 40 grains of wax from some of your strings. I get 8-10,000 shots from my strings. I use X-Wax by BCY the last few years. They make the fibers, I figure they know what wax to use. NEVER use heat. Never use a leather to rub it in with the heat from friction ether. You take great pains to keep your bow out of a hot car to prevent string issues and then....use a hair dryer on your strings.
I wax about once ever month or two but I shoot daily so I shoot more than the average person about 100-150 shots a day
One good wax can last awhile. Every shooting session, every week, or monthly isn't necessary IMO. Use the eye test. When the string starts fraying, apply wax.
