Well.... I have 12 more daunting hours of office gruel left before once again heading west. Figured why not get this thread started. Like last year I will update the thread as cell service allows throughout the duration of the trip. This year my good buddy Greg Staggs (Greg/MO) and I are hunting together. We have hunted a lot of turkeys over the past few seasons but this will be our first elk hunt together. Excited to say the least and hopeful that we can get into some good animals.

Greg and crew will arrive at my place tomorrow evening and we will drive straight thru to the western slope of CO on Thurs. Greg's 2 boys and his awesome wife will be joining us and we will be camping in style with his big travel trailer and his wife's amazing cooking. (insert spoiled emoticon here:)

Some of you will remember last years hunt... I'll link that here...

The bow is shooting great, arrows are all built and packed, just a few last minute things to wrap up this evening and I am ready to roll out.

Putting the finishing touches on getting loaded this afternoon and can't wait to head your way in the morning buddy!

Yeah, my wife's cooking... I think I'm the only guy on the mountain last time I went that was eating shrimp fettucini and all kinds of other incredible stuff she'd sent with me while the other guys around me were eating ham sandwiches. :) It's going to be awesome to come back to camp and have a hot meal waiting for us... no warming it up over a fire or anything.

9 days - NICE! Enjoy guys!

I've always loved wall tenting it at elk camp, but my buddies are trying to spoil me as well this year and towing out a camper for us...didn't take me too long to give in (hot shower every night is the kicker for me). We're only looking at 5 days of hunting like usual...but I'll take whatever I can get - it would be dreadful to have to skip a year of the elk mountains:)

Greg - have you made it back out elk hunting in recent years at all - I still appreciate the info & tips you shared with me after your first success!

Hey, Matt! Thanks... I appreciate the nice words.

Yes, I've made it back out almost every year but last... Two years ago, as TJ said, I went out by myself and towed my four-wheeler on a 4x8 trailer with my car and hunted out of a tent. The year before, I pulled my travel trailer and took my family like I'm doing this year... that was a ton of fun, and I'm looking forward to this trip again having all the company in camp.

That year, I shot a nice 5x5 and still to this day would have sworn I smoked it... it was quartering-to JUST a bit, but I thought I tucked it in tight enough to the shoulder to get both lungs; I guess not. Spent three days looking for him and no magpies, buzzards, or anything... :(
