I currently have my camera observing a drainage ditch in some thick woods. It connects a bedding area with a field. I am getting pretty consistent Doe traffic through the ditch on their way to and from the bedding area. my question is will the deer continue to use the ditch as a travel corridor once the weather turns and with a few inches of snow or cold rain?
Yes. No. Maybe. I've seen deer continue and I've seen deer change entirely. Depends a lot on what other alternative routes they have and just how deep the water gets and if the soil gets really mucky with the added water. It will be fun to find out and know that answer for next year!
If all else stays the same, I would expect them to continue using it. But all else is not likely to all remain the same. I wouldn't expect a few inches of snow to change their pattern, but I would expect their food sources and possibly their bedding areas to change.
What's in the field that attracts them to it? Unless that attraction changes or the area gets pressured from you hunting it, I imagine they will still use it throughout the season. When bucks enter their seeking stage you will likely start to pick up buck travel. Hope to see your follow up to let us know what happens.
Thanks for the responses, I'm gonna hang my stand and hope for the best. I will let you guys know how it works out
