my set up 2016 PSE DRIVE R 70# 27.5 INCH DRAW SHOOTING GOLD TIP ARROWS 390 GRAIN TOTAL WITH HEAD WHISKER BISQUIT REST ( WANT TO CHANGE JUST WAIING FOR FUNDS) MY BROTHERS SET UP PRIME 60# 28.5 INCH DRAW SHOOTING MAXIM ARROWS 395 GRAIN TOTAL WITH HEAD DROP AWAY REST when we shoot same yardage his arrows seem to hit harder and penetrate further. he has an inch more arrow and 10# less draw weight. only 5 grain difference. is the whisker biscuit robbing power? amazing to me how little things matter that much. The ibo speeds are about the same. I love archery!!!
If your IBO speeds are roughly the same and he's shooting a 5gr heavier projectile I'd say the penetration difference has to be the projectile itself. By the time the arrow clears the WB it's already ceased to be affected by the WB. Once the arrow hits the chronograph the only difference is the arrow itself. But yes, a WB will affect speed. Mine went up appx. 3fps
When I first got my previous bow in 1995, which is a heck of a lot slower than today, I switched from 100 to 125 grain tips. the 125's gained about 4-6" of penetration into the stacked cardboard target I was shooting at.
Been shooting WB on my hunting bows for years and swear by them. The 3fps is well worth the simplicity and 100% guarantee it comes with. Have a limb driven drop away rest on my 3D bow and after a tough Ibex hunt in Spain I don't think a drop away rest would have made it. Kilboars Hunt Club
I will tell you I am thinking about switching back to a whisker biscuit. I just had my drop away fail on Monday night and it was throwing arrows all over the place. The rest just stopped dropping. That kind of makes me nervous Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The Whisker Biscuit isn't immune to failure. It just seems to be gradual as the whiskers wear instead of all at once. The simplicity of it can't be denied though. A small amount of wear on the bristles doesn't have the potential of costing you a trophy buck.
yeah I love the simplicity of the wb. I know anything can fail, but I just think that a good drop away is the way I am going to go. I just don't like the fact that it contacts the vanes. I am not that experienced but I shoot everday. after the hunting season this year I think im going to change strings, rest, and sight. I also thought about a 125 grain head next year. thanks for the replys
All it took was one freezing rainy November morning and my WB went into the old gear bin. I hunt a lot of cold November days.
I've shot with both; and from what I can tell the wb produces drag on the arrow which reduces speed and minimises ke; and since I've been shooting with a drop away I'll never go back to a wb due to the above reasons Sent from my XT1528 using Tapatalk
K.I.S.S. No moving parts to fail. Yes, you lose a few FPS...but hat 192# Buck I shot last year couldn't tell
I switched back to a whisker biscuit this year after about a 10 year break. I am happy with the results and I'm not shooting past 25 yards in the woods anyways. Kill.
My first thought when reading this is that if the WB is causing enough drag to be noticeable, then the size of the hole in the bristles is too small or it's not mounted square with the shelf. The drag on the arrow should be only a few inches more than with a properly timed drop away. The only contact that will cause any difference is when the fletching passes through the bristles. The effect of the bristles on fletching is why I switched to a drop away. If you shoot a lot, the vanes get wavy and the arrow doesn't stabilize right. I'm sure the OP never intended for this thread to turn into a WB vs drop away debate.
I made the switch back to the whisker biscuit this year, honestly because I can't afford a drop away rest! I was a little apprehensive at first but once I started shooting, I couldn't tell a difference!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I shoot a schaffer "Drop away" rest even though it opens, not drops. but i love the think it is run by two springs and makes it almost fool proof if you take care of it and its quiet as all get out.
If you want to enhance your wb as I did in '95 I got rid of plastic vanes altogether and went to the Turbo Nocks ( no more refletching, ever!) I use the smaller type which requires a mechanical. They also make one for fixed heads .
Has anyone ever used a capture rest with minimal bristle pads? more like this one TruGlo Storm Capture Arrow Rest My brother has similar and really likes it, I have a whisker bisquit and have had no issues with it
I love my Whisker Biscuit. The jury is out until after the season contest on how I like it with Gravy.
