I know it turned out well but I'm not sure I would have taken that shot. Can't argue with those results though. Blessings.........Pastorjim
The big difference here is is being ground level, not in a tree stand and the size of the animal compared to a whitetail. The lethal spot on an Elk frontal is about the size of a volley ball. IMO it's a good shot if all the stars line up. Relaxed animal, within 20 yards and know what spot your shooting at. There is a great artical by John Dudley in Petersons Bowhunting on this shot. There are major arteries that run through it, Heart and lungs are in the path to as well as the jugular ! On an Elk in this situation I'm all in, Whitetails no !
This has been around awhile, I have seen it several times. I am not sure I would take that shot, but I have no experience hunting elk. So I would err on the side of caution if given a shot. But as stated, you can't argue with those results.
I have always been taught to take the double lung shot, not sure I would have taken this shot just out of comfort but I can't argue with the results
Cool video. It was quick kill for sure. I have never hunted elk so I don't know if it was a good or bad shot. Probably wouldn't have been my first choice for a shot
IMO he got lucky and hit the jugular just right. An inch to either side and it may not have been such a quick kill.
