Last year I received word that the Farmer's son had shot a 12pt, and i just knew it was a buck i called "SlingShot." no picks after the season, nothing, until last week. I did a card pull to find out he was very much alive and well! I have been watching this buck for 3 years now, and while I'd be lying if i said i have willingly passed on him the last two years when Ive seen him, I'm certainly not lying when i say im happy it didnt work out in previous years. In 2014 I had him come through chasing a doe, i bleated to stop him only to have him stop his trot behind a single limb with leaves that covered his vitals, i let down knowing i didnt have a shot and watched him continue on his quest for a quickie. Fast forward to 2015, first week of October, hunting a different area on the farm, a doe sprints past me a gray light, and 5-10min later i hear more footsteps coming from the same direction she came from. I finally caught a glimpse of feet heading my way, He hit one small clearing, enough for me to see his rack and know it was him, and stopped in a mess of mulberry bushes 30yds away...no shot. Saw nothing else from him the rest of the year, no trail cam pics notta. Well he has grown into something pretty special, especially for this area of Florida where bucks simply are not afforded the opportunity to live as long as he has. Im guessing him to be 5 this year, he is a mainframe 9, with 2 kickers, and his main beams look to only be 2" or so from touching, and he should make the Florida book if this is the year i close the deal. Lots of history watching this buck "groe up" and it be pretty cool to write the last chapter this fall. Stay tuned! Any ways, below is a picture i put together of him covering the last 3 years, as well as some from last weeks card pull. Enjoy!
This guy had my work schedule in 2014, i had so many day photos of him working a scrape 20yds from my stand on all of the days i had to work. he was crafty even then haha.
