For the majority of us that are waiting for this special day I will first start off by saying that I can't wait!!!! What are you all thoughts about it being on a Saturday? Since I started bowhunting I believe this will be my first opener on that day. I work during the week so every year I either have to schedule off or don't hunt that day at all or hunt that evening which is hard for me. I kinda of look at it like a bonus. I will definitely be in a stand that morning if I get my way!!! Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Ours is always on a Saturday (archery opener). Our rifle season always opens on a Monday, but most schools close for that day, so I never have to work that day either. Sent from my Turbo 2.
WI starts bowhunting season on the Sat nearest Sept 15th. Cant imagine waiting until Oct. to bowhunt.
The Opener hasn't been on a Saturday in Oklahoma since 2011 and yes I wish our bow season opened earlier also. But on the bright side we now have less than three months before we can get it on in your case less than 2 I'm jealous!!! Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Since it's on a Saturday and Halloween on a Friday I'll take off on Halloween and hunt sat and sun. If it falls during the week I don't usually waste the days off that early in the season. I'll wait for the first weekend.
Yes. It's something like the second Saturday after the first Monday in September here in Minnesota. Therefore, every opener here is on a Saturday.
Ohio bow season always starts on the last Saturday in September, I'm counting down. Opening day is a tradition!
Alabama archery opener has always been October 15th regardless what day of the week it falls on. I save a couple of days of vacation just for that day. We can hunt this year till February 10th since 10 more days were added. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I do not hunt opening day or opening week anymore Yeah it makes my wait longer but not a lot of activity in Jones County, Texas early Oct because it is hot and often windy. Early Oct is still in the 80s and will be in the low 70s by the end of the month. One weekend in mid Oct, it was so windy, the only thing I saw stiring was a single mocking bird building a nest. It was useful for scouting, but that was it. I will burn vacation time & hunt the last week of Oct, then again mid Nov; Wed through Sat on both weeks. After that, I'll try to sneak in Fri & Sat here & there while the season is open.
I'll be out October 1st no matter the weather unless a downpour occurs. Just to be out is good enough for me.
My first bow kill was on opening weekend, there's no way I could purposely wait longer! For those who wait to hunt so they don't ruin the stand for rut, do you not have spots for doe hunting that won't interfere? Early season is always the perfect time for doe management at least. I'd love to get a velvet buck sometime too!
I understand, they're buck bait in the rut that's for sure. But, it really depends on the buck to doe ratio. Too many does and bucks don't have to compete or chase as much so there's less activity. Not enough does and the bucks will be like ghosts. So it has to be a very calculated decision and you have to find a good balance, at least that's my experience.
