Ok so I have a confession to make.... I'm addicted to trail cameras. I can barely go a week without checking them. How do you guys wait? It's really hard for me. Luckily I'm only 14 and have to have a ride, and I don't usually have a ride. But seriously how do y'all do it?
Find a job haha i know that's almost impossible at 14 but find something to do i'm 19 when im not working im outside doing something and it is very hard for me because all my cameras are a sort walk out my back door right now im fishing and i usually on a hot day eather site and wait for our local ground hogs to appear and take a shot at them or im staying cool in a river or a pool. remember you are 14 go and have some crazy adventures but not to crazy and i speak from experience.
Leave them in for 2 or 3 weeks at a time. That way, a ride isn't as big an issue and you won't be disrupting your area too much. I only check mine once a week during the rut, because things change so quickly at that time. They are a lot of fun!
Too busy to check them more than once every 2 weeks. Once you run them for a while it will get easier. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Trail cams are super addicting! You just have to trust your doing the right thing leaving them out for weeks at a time. Every time you go into to check them your leaving some kind of scent behind, which then educates the deer. The less intrusive you are the better. I like to hang mine on the fringes of cover, cause its easier to get to and I can drive my truck right up to them. I like to go midday or my favorite time midday during a rain storm. That way any scent left behind will be diluted. The first two years I ran cameras I checked them every two weeks and sometimes once a week. Over time I started seeing less and less deer on them even through the rut! Makes sense now, I was putting them deep in the woods, at hours of the day, leaving every kind of scent behind imaginable and busting deer out left and right.
I had to send my covert code black back again. I was only getting about half the pics it took. Withdrawal is real.... I've got 6 other cams out, and I check them every 2 weeks. Anticipation is similar to going hunting......
If your enjoying then keep at it. I check every two weeks but do what works for you and have good time. I take my pellet rifle when I go and shoot the chipmunks
Welcome to the addiction grasshopper! Take it from someone who's been running cams for over 20yrs, IT DON'T GET ANY EASIER!! I still want to go recheck them an hour after I set them up. Blessings.........Pastorjim
We run 18 cams and never check them but one time prior to season so as to not b too much of a disruption. We put them in in Aug and never look at them until season opens in mid Sept. Then again only if hunting that particular area during season.
I go 3-4 weeks. Just don't have time to check more often. Works well not to disrupt areas either. I want to check them everyday though!!
I can be to my cameras in 5 minutes from where I live. The temptation is real In all seriousness, it's an inventory tool at this stage, so leaving checking it regularly isn't going to benefit you in any shape or form versus leaving it out undisturbed for long periods of time. Another solution? Multiple properties that you check on a rotation
It is much easier now that I am married with children and we have the farm to take care of. Hang in there. We all are impatient but just make ourselves wait.
Keep yourself busy. That's how I do it. Find excuses not to check them. Like I have to mow the lawn this weekend.
Being busy does help, but also realizing that every time I go into the woods to check them I'm alerting deer to my presence keeps me from checking as often. .... sometimes.
I only check them if I am in the woods doing something else. Usually working on the land to make my hunting better. spraying, clearing brush, planting, setting stands. I've never checked them just to check them.
