So Illinois passed a law last year that kids under the age of 14 can now hunt with a crossbow.
So I explained that to my oldest daughter Audrey who has been shooting a bow since she was 2.
She said she did not want a crossbow that she would work really hard to be able to draw the minimum weight (40#'s).
Well she has been practicing so hard and just can't get there yet. So we talked again about a crossbow for her. She decided that she would use one this year but still keep practicing with her regular bow.
I am more excited about taking her out to get her first deer than I am for my season.
She is 9 and been learning all about hunting since she was a baby now I get a chance to put all of what she has learned to use this year.

That's awesome, my younger daughter waited til she was 12 to draw the legal weight. I offered her a crossbow too. she refused though. Love watching kids shoot

Glad to hear she want to be a bowhunter. Give her time to build strength and she will be a bowhunter in no time. If she want to be a crossbower for a year, oh well. At least she expressed a desire to eventually become a bowhunter once she gets stronger. Gotta love that desire and passion in a kid.

I wish Kentucky would make cross bows legal for all youth hunters, and no offense to women but women too. It's a great way to get people in the woods who are either unable to shoot a bow or who can't pull much poundage.

You must be a proud poppa. That's a good choice in a crossbow too, very light weight.

Doe or buck doesn't matter to me.
I have been teaching her that you shoot only what you would eat.
Her response once as long as it doesn't have spots I'll shoot it.
But if I shoot a buck it's gonna be a big one hahaha
I don't think she realizes they are all going to look big to her now

It's good that they were progressive enough to make crossbows legal while being backwards about requiring a 40# draw weight for a regular bow.

My son has been hunting with his bow since he could draw 30#. He up to #38 now. No need to push things and risk development of bad habits.

I'm thinking of setting my wife up with a crossbow.

I'll tell you what depending on how tall your wife is or how long her arms are the carbon express hot pursuit that I bought for my daughter is absolutely perfect for people with a smaller fframe

That would probably be a good choice for her. She is only 5 feet tall.
