Can a content bowhunter be found? We spend hours tweaking, practicing, and analyzing. Once we reach near perfection and become one with our equipment, we immediately begin to search for something new to try. A different broadhead, even though the one we used last year worked flawlessly. A new rest, even though the one on the bow is micro tuned to split hairs. Maybe a longer arrow, shorter arrow, newer bow, taller tree stand. No wait! I know! A ground blind is just what I need! There is no end. When we hear a funny noise at the shot, the first thing we do is grab our allen wrench and start checking screws on the bow. Maybe we should check the ones in our heads. We all seem to have one loose. Isn't bowhunting the greatest thing ever!!!
I thought it was just me. Everyone makes fun of me because I never settle and am always tweaking something.
Yes, but as soon as the season ends......you start thinking......about what you could do/buy/obtain for next year. Am I right??
The two biggest areas for me that this hits is trail cameras and food plots. I am constantly looking for new deals on trail cams and where I can put more food plots!

It is even worse when you fish during the off-season, im content buying new stuff to try for hunting and fishing
Im on the side that once the season starts i am happy to be sitting in the stand but once it is over i am looking at new things to improve my game, I have had family and friends call it "Unhealthy" but im still breathing so i know its not lethal
Usually once I get my setup where I am happy with it and there is nothing left to do, I start convincing myself I need a new bow and it starts all over.
Nope I am pretty content I will be using the same arrows and heads again this year no new camo or stand or any new archery equipment. I pick up my bow and shoot it once a week or so and shoot a few rounds I can still hit where I aim.
Naw I am just a 50 year old guy that has what I need to get it done, I did buy a new knife this year though so I guess that is upgrading.
I've been using the same bow/heads/arrows for 13 years. I don't practice shooting much. I only need to shoot accurately out to 20-25 yards which is not that hard to do. I'm a very content bowhunter when perched up in a tree.
I have not bought one new piece of equipment this year... Yet. I left my range finder in the rain last year and someone stole my Scent Lok jacket so I will be getting one of those. Likely the only 2 pieces of equipment I will buy this year.
As I get older, the more and more content I get with gear. I used to be more technical than anyone and I think I've owned more bows than just about anyone I know. But at this point I realize how little it really means in the big picture of what really required to kill big deer. These days the things I obsess about are access to quality land, deer behaviour patterns, land improvement, etc. That's what really matters in my opinion when it comes to consistently killing big deer.
