Yep. We've been roosting turkeys (well, my husband has) - for the past month on Friday mornings. He went and sat on the edge of the field last week and didn't hear much. But, didn't think much of it. Well, this morning he went back to where we have hunted for the past five years - which is near our bow stands - and waited. Nothing. We've ALWAYS had gobblers here. They were there two weeks ago. So he started walking to see if there was any signs - nope. But our stand was stolen. The land behind us is all posted. So we know it was someone from that property that stole it - as we had issues during deer season (riding in on fourwheelers right at day break and prime time in the evenings). We have all bowhunting and turkey rights to this property - so it's no one from our side (plus - the gun hunters that hunt it are too lazy to walk where we go). So not only are these people ruining our prime area - but they're also taking our things. So frustrating. I know it happens to a lot - but it's the first time I experienced it. Guess it's time to find a new spot.
They are. For sure. I imagine if you went on their side you'd find the tree stand set up this year. They aren't intelligent people.
Which I think is another part of it. My husband is very avid when it comes to bowhunting and turkey hunting. He puts in a lot of time and hours (like most dedicated). Well, he was killing one nice gobbler and buck out of there every year. I think neighbors on the back side caught wind of it. We never had issues until last fall.
I know how that feels. I had a LW sit and climb stolen years ago, that was cable locked to the tree. This was on Private land too. What a let down!
Those kind of animals(their not people) should have it happen to them 10 fold!! Just a bunch of scum, case closed. One day, they`ll get theirs!!!!!
Thieves and adulterers, I have no time for. They both suck in my book. I've had 3-4 stands stolen, and a bunch of steps stolen over the years. That's part of the reason I switched to ladder stands. I hope you catch them.
Time to setup some good old fashioned booby traps - once these thieves injure themselves they will be less likely to enter your property and steal stuff. A buddy of mine greases his lower steps on his tree stand, someone tries to climb it they get a broken jaw. Just make sure to make a map of your booby trap locations!
