Alright guys, I'm sure this is a simple math equation for one of you... I am building some stands for my redneck blinds.. I am trying to find the degree of an angle. I know I want my stand around 12 ft in the air..
I could be way off but i think your leg will be about 12'8" and your angle about 32°. Someone smarter than me will jump in im sure
In order to get the degree of the angle you have to know the length of the leg, do that by using this formula...A^2+B^2=C^2...that's A squared+B squared=C squared...Pythagorean theorem...only works on right angles for future reference. So 4^2+12^2=C^2
I don't trust my math skills, what I do with a problem like that is just lay it out on the shop floor and measure it.
If you have 2 side lengths and a right triangle and need that angle you have all the info you need. With the side opposite the angle of 4' and a height of 12', you use the tangent of the angle for the opposite divided by the ascendant side or 4/12= .3333333 you look that number up on the table and you find the angle is 18.435 degrees. There is a mnemonic to remember which function to use if you have any 2 sides of a right triangle: SOH CAH TOA. SOH-Use the Sine function if you have opposite divided by hypotenuse; CAH-Cosine for Adjacent divided by hypotenuse; TOA-Tangent for opposite divided by adjacent. Ps add the 90 degrees for the rest of the angle.
Quick guessing u have a 45 on one side and a one 135 degree angle on the inside but that's looking at pic and doing no math. So with a 33 degree angle it would have a 147 degree on side u have circled if I understand the pic and problem correctly
I agree laying it on shop floor is the easiest way then u can match others chalk line on floor and build unless he will build in field that be a little harder to do lol then he may need the angles. What materials is he using be next question
Well let's just say the leg is 12ft long then.. My peices r 24ft overall. So I will just cut them in half. I plan to make it just like redneck makes theirs. I just know I can make it for about 800$ cheaper. I'm using all angle iron. Gonna fab it up in my shop and bolt it all together in the woods..
I was working on laying it all out last night till it got to dark on me.. I was thinking of getting some chalk and laying it out on my shop floor that way..

leg should be 12.65 Feet (about 12' 8") (a^2 + b^2 = c^2), Angle is 108.43 degrees (18.43 degrees figured out using inverse tangent (tan^-1(4/12)) + 90 degrees for the right angle.) P.S. you can trust my math on this one haha
12' 7.8" and the the angle 18.42 degrees. In the future you can reduce the feet to inches and draw it on a piece of paper without the nee for a large floor and chalk.
To me it looks like an obtuse angle, so greater than 90 degrees. Not saying anyone is right or wrong but I don't see how it can be any less than 90.
I guess depends what angle u look at and call inside and out side lol. I'd build it from loader down how he has it picture and go with it and take the hard math out of it and a tape measure would work
First I wouldn't worry about even figuring that angle. You don't want to just butt the leg onto the bottom of the platform, you would want to run the leg long and overlap the material of the platform for you can fasten it together stronger so that angle isn't really important for fabrication. Not to mention, that what you are building is not just two dimensional. The legs, need to go wider than the platform in Two directions. That is pretty much how my rifle stand is built only from wood. the platform is 4x8. The footprint of the legs at the ground is 6x10. So I built the side of the legs, 4 feet top, 6 feet bottom. Attached them to the platform loosely, and braced them together so the bottom of the two sides was 10ft apart, and bolted them tight.
