What kind of target do you like to use for your broadhead target? I don't have one and I want to pick one up but haven't done any research on them. Just don't want it to get destroyed in a month of shooting
I bought a cheap Buck Commander fieldpoint and broadhead target for about $40 last summer. It is not the best but it held up through this season. Before that I had a Block target that lasted for several years before arrows started going through it.
I shot through all 6 sides of my Rinehart target in a month and a half. Looking back, I wish I would have spent a little more money and gotten the 18-1 instead.
I don't shoot broadheads much. Just a couple dozen arrows before season to make sure they are tuned with my field points, and then a couple dozen through season to make sure I'm still dialed in. I've got an 18-1 that is 3-4 years old now and it's in great condition. I'd highly recommend. I've had several block style targets in the past and they never last when shooting broadheads.
Some archery clubs will sell old inserts for cheap and some guys say they turn them side ways and shot away.
I have gone through lots of BH targets. Most were junk. Blob Block Rinehart 18:1 Block Fusion Yellow Jacket Big Green Targets I had the Rinehart 18:1 for a few months, never again. After a couple hundred arrows (some dots never shot) I could not get my BH out of it. They would move back in forth a few inches but not come out. I called Rinehart and the guy knew exactly the issue. Since it is a ball the center gets chewed up. A chunk gets caught behind a blade and would not let you pull it out. NOT covered under warranty. So I tried a couple other brands that didn't last either. Last spring I bought the Rinehart (Block XL? Brute? forgot name) with the removable core. So far so good. And I will save some $ by buying just the core when needed. Only issue is if it is cold (below 40) arrows are hard to pull. A little arrow lube helped a lot.
My local hardware store has chunks of white open cell styrofoam they are 2' x 4' x 8" thick. I cut this in half to make a 2'× 2' x 16" piece. The hardware store give me the wrap thats on the lumber pallets and i wrap the foam in those. Takes longer for the foam to blow apart. For $20 its a cheap target and gets the job done for me
I also don't shoot broadheads alot. Main targets for field points are a couple of Rinehart deer and a Block target. For broadheads we use a cheapo $40 target. We get about 3 years use out of these.
18-1. I've owned it for about 4 years now. No problems. Like Matt, though, I don't shoot many BH's a year into it. Just prior to the season (or when I setup new arrows) and then occasionally during the season.
