Just stop making the predictions please and just hunt hard in November. That is my 2016 rut prediction.
Hunt from Halloween til Nov 20th or so as hard as you can! 200, 000 YouTube views later I'm an expert.
No.. His predictions never say the rut is going to be awesome for 30 days straight. They typically say when they think the rut is going to peak and what weeks you should see the best daytime activity. In my experience his prediction regarding the timing of the visible rut - when I see the most daylight activity both via sightings and trail cam monitoring - is almost always correct. The one factor that typically changes that, for better or worse, is weather.
The main rutting activity here in SE Pa is the last week of Oct and first two weeks of Nov, EVERY year.
To be honest... I've never seen/read any of his predictions. I predict the rut is going to be anywhere from November 7th - November 21st. Put it in stone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Typically, the best rattling period here in my neck of the woods is the two weeks surrounding Halloween. The rut is normally around the 10-15th of November. Just follow that moon in November in southern Kentucky.
Absolutely !! I have shot so many deer from Nov 10-16. I also do not see any correlation with moon phases either and this belief is from entering many moon times and phases into my log books year after year....I don't log anything with the moon anymore. If deer had to wait for everything to be perfect to move or feed , they would starve.
last year my best activity was mid October. seems most videos I've seen that is also when they killed big bucks. YES even Graf! what are we all going to do some day when Charlie isn't around to tell us when to hunt?
I never rule out anything, but the predictions never worked in my area. The prediction for this past year was late October to the first week of November, which couldn't be further from what really happened. The best days for me were the last two days of the season and that seems to be the case every year. A thing I have noticed with moon guys is their tendency to make excuses for why it didn't work. If EVERYTHING has to be perfect, which we know it never is, then why factor the moon in at all? Having said all of that, I do consider the moon when deciding on morning or evening hunts, but it would never keep me out of the woods.
I look at his report every year and found it to be pretty accurate as long as the temperatures are not too high. If they are, I see more activity at night on my cameras and scrapes hit at night. He clearly states that temperatures above 45 degrees change everything. I started following his reports in 2011 which got me started sitting all day during the bright moon. I've seen more deer cruising during mid-day and had more opportunities at decent bucks during his predicted seeking phase than either before or after. That said, I agree that late October through November is the time to be in the woods to hunt the rut.
Last year was great for others in Northern Illinois from what I heard, Southern was far from normal. Last week to two weeks of November and first of Dec I thought.
