I saw a number of people crying about this on Facebook, not surprisingly a few have sketchy shed hunting reputations. You are not supposed to be in there so I see it the same as scrum bag tresspassers! Guys caught in the preserve should lose hunting privileges.

There were so many guys in there harassing this buck the DNR had to arrest/escort them out. Rumor is there were a few who were taking shifts watching him to get his rack. It ultimately became a harassment issue for the deer which is why they tranquilized him and took his rack off.

Sad what people will do for a set of antlers.

What Losers. Same as poachers. How could you feel any reward?? They really have nothing better to do than watch a deer around the clock until his antlers fall off? Very sad that so many so called hunters have not one iota of respect for the game we pursue, and zero morals or values as outdoorsman.

Yikes I didn't realize that they would reach the point of tranquilizing them to get their antlers removed. That had to be quite the sensation to wake up and realize that someone stole his head gear :)

    Hmmm... I disagree. Respectfully.

The forest preserve land is payed for as a taxpayer. So.. In theory one should have a right as a taxpayer to go in and collect a leaf or a pair of cast antlers. Why? Because it's just a leaf or a pair of cast antlers.

In cook county one can actually get a ticket for taking a natural item off any one of the park grounds. So.. You can get a ticket for taking a leaf.. Like some children do to have pressed into a book. And.. That's ridiculous. It's just a leaf.

Technically it's public ground.. So why couldn't one go in there? Especially as a taxpayer?

It's an odd issue. Personally.. I think hunters are crazy.. And shed hunters are the craziest of all. I see no thrill in finding a shed off a buck I cannot chase with my bow. But.. Others do.. And that's fine. I don't condone their actions or expect a jail sentence of them because I don't agree with it.

In my opinion.. The forest preserve should sell the antlers.. Then donate the money to a worthwhile cause.. Or a project to help enhance their parks. But.. Likely they won't. The sheds which should belong to the public.. Are probably going to end up in some collectors hand (whether public or private) and that does no one any justice.

What I'm saying.. What's the difference if joe smith found the bucks antlers versus joe Thomas who works for the forest preserve?

Are we to say joe Thomas of the cook county forest preserve did anything more legal than joe smith?

afterall.. It's illegal to take anything natural from the forest preserve.

This is plain and simple but I know you like to push the other opinion when you can, you arent allowed to go in there, you arent allowed to take anything from there! You want to change that then I am all for it but until it is changed they are scrum bag tresspassers!!!

Let's slow this down.. You think a shed hunter should lose his/her hunting privileges over finding some antlers in a forest preserve. That's what you said.

but.. As a business owner you are perfectly okay with selling monsterraxx to illinois residents.. Knowing they are performing illegal baiting practices within the state... When they use your products. Afterall.. You can't stop them from throwing down minerals. You have no control over who buys your product.

    is this correct?

i mean.. I get that you are not responsible for what another hunter does after he or she buys your product.. And you shouldn't be. I just find your very black and white stance on shed antlers in a forest preserve odd.. When you would have to be naive to think hunters across the country aren't using your products illegally. At least.. At times. So apparently you see less black and white on this issue because it directly effects your pocket book.

In Illinois it is not illegal to sell deer minerals and the reason it is not is because of deer farms. If you do not own a deer farm and use it in the wild, it is on you not the supplier.

And I'm not trying to pick on you at all. Please don't think that.

i just find your matter of fact answer as bs. A contradiction if you will.

I know that. You're missing my point. It's odd to me a man says another man should lose his right to hunt over an antler... But to be okay with selling a product in any state that says the use of his product is illegal. But to be totally cool with that.

to me.. He's just a guy standing on a soapbox screaming foul play.. Form the lynch mob!

    i dislike lynch mob mentality.

Mike I think it was pretty clear what I said, you are not supposed to go into the Forest Preserve but people do it anyway to pick up world class sheds. There is public land in MN that I can't go into, so I dont. I am guessing there is that type of set up in a number of states as well. I am against tresspassers as are most on this site from reading many posts. I think if I leased land and put mineral down you would have a point, but you want to compare me to a tresspasser if someone else does it when I do not know that...I think that is a stretch. As for the getting up on a soap box, if I wanted to climb up on it over the years I would have to wait for you to get down first once in a while.

Let's slow this down to a basic stop:

So....someone who sells a product which once sold is entirely out of their control of how/where it is used is the same as someone trespassing onto ground it is illegal to be on...and attempt to take things from it which is illegal.

I must really be getting stupider these days because that makes no sense at all to me.
