Hey Guys, I just received my arrow shafts that I ordered just the other day in the mail. I purchased a dozen Easton Axis 340 shafts off of bowhuntingoutlet.com. The shafts were a pretty good deal so I pulled the trigger. I got them very quick which I am extremely happy about. However the problem is I believe the nocks are glued in. This I am surprised at, since I didn't know you glue in nocks. I'm not a fan with this because I like to index my nocks with the fletching, I like to use lighted nocks, and if I break one it's easy to replace. The questions I have are: Have any of you have purchased shafts with the nocks glued in? Would you send them back? Is there a safe way to remove them? Let me know if you guys have any questions! Thanks in advance, Tim.
I've never in my life seen glued-in nocks from Axis arrows. I've had some that were so tight I couldn't turn and had to use pliers to pull out. But the boiling water trick should work.
They might not be glued in but are certainly very tight. I've never worked with these arrows so I'm not too sure how they come in the mail. Thanks for the advice.
If they are that tight and not glued. Pull them and take a fine sand paper and just sand the inserted end a little. Heating them terrible idea. In order to pull inserts we would insert a field tip. We would then heat the TIP and pull the insert out with pliers by the tip. However this doesn't always work . Some epoxys would transfer the heat to the shaft and flare it. I would not heat the carbon shaft with water or and thing else unless I had no options and didn't care if ruined a couple.
Is there a pliers that works best for this so I don't damage the nocks? Trying make this work the right way so I don't just go half a$$ing everything and do crappy work.
Ok, I managed to get the nock to turn. I'm not sure if it was glued, but man is it tight! Might take a bit of work to get 12 nocks out of the shafts.
Man if dipping the end of an arrow questions the integrity of it boy I'd be sure to go and buy a dozen more
So, every arrow that is ever dipped in boiling water for quikfletch's is ruined? Lol.... Riiiiiiiiight.
Your equating 10 seconds max in boiling water to heat shrink wrap to heating a carbon shaft hot enough to loosen the glue on the inside? Maybe we should be laughing
You really believe the nocks are glued in? Now I am laughing. Marauder, Did they cut the shafts to length for you? If not and the nocks are indeed glued, just cut the arrow at both end to get the length you need and replace the nocks. Not a bad practice anyway.
From eastern ALL-CARBON SHAFTS (OTHER THAN HIT SYSTEM) POINT AND INSERT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Do not use hotmelt adhesive or apply heat to any all-carbon shaft, as it can weaken or cause damage to the shaft.
Gold tip Installing Inserts - Read Warning and First Aid instructions on Tip Grip bottle before use. - Wear safety glasses. - Do not handle inserts by gluing surfaces as doing so may lead to improper adhesion. Disposable gloves are recommended. - Use only TIP GRIP adhesive to install inserts. Do not use hot melt glue on carbon arrows.
WE SAID BOILING WATER, nobody said anything about hot melt! Reading isn't your strongpoint either tonight huh?
