What is your broadhead of choice for turkey hunting? (non-head shots) I used the Rocket Buckblaster last year and it worked great. Left a hole darn near the size of a baseball. If you remove the fix blades it brings it down to 100 grains and flies like your field point. Just curious what everyone else uses? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I used NAP Gobbler Getter last season. This year I will either use them again or just shoot the same QAD Exodus fixed blades I used for deer.
I prefer a mechanical but this fall with 10 tom's strutting and feeding in front of my ground blind during deer season, I used a Slick Trick and a German Kinetic.............. "EXPENSIVE" turkey!!!!!!!
How can you have a turkey broadhead thread and exclude any talk of decap heads???!!!??? Should be laws against such things.. BUT, to answer the question I don't change from what I shoot far other game. Currently that is Magnus Black Hornets, I have also taken a couple birds with Stingers. The Hornets will be in my quiver this fall alongside the Bullheads
I use the same Rage 2 blade that I use for deer/bear. I have thought about getting a decap one, but yet to pull the trigger.
This will be my first season turkey hunting and first with a bow. I picked up some Magnus Bullheads for the AT classifies but i'm having second thoughts because they require stiffer, full length arrows, and you have to buy quiver adapters. Not to mention i'm sure my sights would have to be readjusted. Seems like a lot of effort and extra money when I could just get some heads that I could use for deer as well. I have some QAD Exodus, Wasp Drones, and Muzzy heads that I could use. I also looked at the Wasp Jak Hammer and the NAP Spitfire.
I have always used the 100gr. Rocket Hammerheads in the past but I can't find them anymore so this year I will be using the NAP Spitfire XXX's.
Is there any reason why the classic Muzzy 100 wouldn't be effective? I can hardly believe a 2 inch cut is necessary to take down an animal one fourth the size of a deer.
I've shot two and lost both. One was shot a little too far back, the other was hit right at the base of the legs. I might try again, and wait on a butt hole or beard shot. It really sucked knowing they died and not recovering them. Just as bad as losing a deer.
I've shot them with the Muzzy (I love Muzzys) and had terrible luck with them simply because there is such a small kill zone on the birds. If you poke a hole in the right spot obviously it will kill them pretty quickly. I've just had trouble hitting them in that spot when they're all puffed up; and I'm a decent shot. If shooting a mechanical head gives me a better chance at a quick, clean kill, I'm using it.
