Same thing that recurve and longbow guys said about compounds decades ago. If it's legal in your state and it's what you want to use then good luck and god bless. As hunters we have enough people opposed to our way of life the last thing we need is to fight among ourseoves.
we call them crossguns in our area. lets try to get everyone calling them what they are. my recurve nor my compound have a trigger, forearm, reddot scope, stock, butt plate, pistol grip, or safety switch. and I sure as heck can't leave them cocked all day waiting to fire at will like a regular rifle. but to each their own.
I'm sure your compound has a trigger. And the both use limbs and a string to create energy in order to shoot an arrow or shaft. Lots of similarities and IMO should be legal everywhere. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Without a doubt Dan it is an opinion. I also agree we shouldn't fight among ourselves. The fact is you mentioned the only similarities between a compound bow and a cross gun. If you shoot with a release instead of fingers.

Even though I qualify for a crossbow permit here in Vt., I choose not to use one. We are still all hunters and I for one am not going to get caught in the anti's "divide and conquer" strategy.
No doubt. I'm not in this for a fight at all. They have never been allowed in Missouri archery unless you had a medical excuse. I'm totally for that. You could use them during firearms and alternative season. This upcoming season they will be allowed in archery season. Only time will tell if there will be an overwhelming interest in hunting with one or if there will be a dramatic increase in deer harvest.

Dan, a certain well respected legacy organization does not agree, I am proud that my state limits the use, elderly and handicapped.
my state allows crossbow during general season only. it is considered a firearm as far as hunting is concerned. as it should be.
We are on bowhunting.com on the bowhunting talk thread so forgive me if I thought we were talking about bowhunting.
How many more years do you think until MN opens it up to everyone? It was just reduced to 60 year olds from used to needing a disability permit. Seems to be the progression it takes in other states that they relax the restrictions and than bam open to everyone.
I just recently learned you can also use a crossbow during regular rifle season in MN if you so choose to.
what happened where I live in PA is that the woods has additional hunters that don't know the slightest thing about archery. I know because I have dbag relatives now asking me where to go archery hunting with their crossguns. my relatives never hunted archery before but this opened up the door to them. so I asked them why the sudden interest? their reply was "IT IS EASY AND IT'S JUST LIKE SHOOTING A GUN!" the only big bucks being taken in my area for the most part are with crossguns. I've talked to a lot of vertical bow hunters and they all say the same thing "just couldn't get to draw without spooking the buck. if I would've had a crossgun that buck would've been dead!" foodplot, you won't see as many change over as you will see additional hunter entering the archery season. more people more pressure. PA just made the switch so I have witnessed the changes. I just don't like seeing guys taking the challenge out of archery. and I know your reply will be "they took the challenge out when the compound was introduced." but there are more similarities with traditional and compound bows when comparing vertical bows and crossguns. the day that I lay my bow down and switch to a crossgun just to increase my success rate is the day I better take a hard look at my hunting skills in general. this post is my opinion and I am not condemning people for using them. we all live in the usa and can choose what we want and that's the beauty of it.
