35 yards is my limit and the furthest ive shot one at. Im picky when it comes to shots and wont risk it any longer than that.
I shot an elk at 37 yards. Fallow deer at 28 yards. Turkey at 24 yards. Whitetail have all been under 20. I'm quite accurate and practice regularly (at least five days a week) at 60 yards. In fact once I get outdoors in the spring, I never shoot closer than 30 yards. Even so, the only time that I have ever had a buck that was over 130" it was broadside at 57 yards and I watched it walk away. On an undisturbed, calm deer I would consider a 30 yard shot.
With my current set up I would consider 40 yards. But it would have to be 100% calm and deer not alert at all and all that jazz. 30 is my max for most cases on a deer. And I have killed 2 times at 30 yards, being my longest shots. I passed a good one a couple years ago at 34 yards because he was on edge and light was a little low, Im not scared to pass if needed.
40 and 40, only done it one time and won't go past that. Why? Mainly because most of my "bad" shots have come at 25yds or less. Distance only magnifies the chances, either from jumping the string or a not so steady pin on release. I generally keep all shots down to 20yds or less, however I will shoot to 40 given a well thought out shot.
60 yards but only under the right conditions (Mule) Deer - 50 yds. Double lung, went 20 yards and tipped over. Elk - 53 yds. Double lung, went 50 yards and tipped over.
max is 25 yards. yes i can shoot targets past that but deer ai'nt targets. those that say "only under good conditions" should read: if its a BIG BUCK!.
I've shot target out to 80 for practice, but the furthest I've shot at an animal is 36 yards (and that was a miss). I connected this season at 32 yards
I could hit a deer at 40 yards but just thinking about what could happen I limit myself to 30 yards. The longest I've shot a deer was 15-18 yards. I don't use a range finder but I can walk yardages very accurately (+/- 1 yard) so before season I'll check and mark the farthest I would be comfortable shooting a deer.
I consider 30ish my max distance and of the two deer I've taken one was at 27 paces and the other was at 32 paces.
My limit is 30 yards. This was only my second bow season and first successful year. I took 2 deer, one was at 16 yards, 2nd was at 18 yards.
Ok seriously...my hunting spots tend to be in the thick stuff where my longest possible shot is 20-25 yards. The longest shot I've ever taken and killed a deer with bow was 35 yards.
I've shot a doe at 38 yds that went 5 yds and fell over. I would shoot out to 45 yds with my current (readld) Solocam.
Max is 35, but I've never shot one over 20ish. Most of my sets only afford a shot around 20. If they ever invent a bow that can break the sound barrier I might start taking a longer shot.
My max is 45. I practice at much further but I just don't like shooting at any further. My furthest is 80 yds. I was practicing everyday and twice on Sunday. It was perfectly calm and I just felt comfortable taking the shot. 3/4 of the arrow passed through the deer. She didn't go 80 yds.
I'm not the best shot so I wouldn't go past 35 or 40. Not comfortable with 50 yet. Plus my bow is slow. 280 or so fps. Ideally I like my shots to be 15 -25 yds. I wouldn't shoot over 40 though
