Have you ever picked up your old bow and shot it just for fun? My nephew is coming out and I want him to start shooting a bow so I picked up my old Fred Bear compound bow and shot it. WOW! I cant believe how it shoots. Its about 15 years old, I think it might even be a youth. It about jumped out of my hand. Made my Hoyt feel like a Cadillac. Anyone ever dig out their old bow and shoot for fun? If so how did it feel/compare to your new bow?
I have an old Browning I shoot from time to time, can't believe I ever shot the dang thing seriously.
I have an old PSE Laser from somewhere around 1980 - I still take it to the range from time to time. 48" axle-to-axle, steel teardrop cable, Dacron string...it's currently set at 65lbs, 30" draw and has about 50% let-off. Heavy and hard to "hold", I can hit what I aim at, but it is nowhere near as much fun to shoot as my current more up to date bows. I doubt I'll ever part with it...just too many memories. Bill
Thanks a lot....... I'm still shooting a 15 year old Buckmaster G2!! lol. Upgrading this year though. Going to sell the Buckmaster too. Guess I will see the difference soon.
I just got into the sport and an older Browning is my bow. I might make an upgrade this summer before hunting season but we'll see.
I keep my 2006 Reflex Buckskin ready to go in case of emergencies. The noise and hand shock is almost unbearable compared to my Hoyt Carbon Element...It still shoots great though.
Still have an old PSE Vulcan from 1990 ish. It's 40-60#, a bit heavy but forgiving. I loan it to friends who want to try archery.
My bow is 8-10 years old I think (Mathews Classic) its not anything fancy but I tell myself with older bows if it could kill deer then then it can kill deer now. And as long as I can keep tight consistent groupings there isn't much reason to upgrade every other year. Although given the opportunity, I probably would. That's human nature for ya!
I actually bought a new bow last year, Mathews Chill R and I had 3 prior bows one a very old Flame with the overdraw which was a beast and then a Parker Raptor XP and a ZX7 Extreme. I got to thinking how I never shot these bows and 2 of my nephews were getting into archery at school so I gave them the Parker and ZX7 and took them to the bow shop and got them sized and fitted and they have been shooting the strings off of them. Getting them into bowhunting will be a rewarding endeavor.
I use to shoot my old Darton occasionally until my father-in-law was interested in it so I sold it to him.
I still have my old PSE Nova, but haven't shot it in years. Actually, I killed my first Alberta buck with it. I keep it as a back-up. My current bow, a Hoyt Vectrix, is no spring chicken, it's 9 years old.
That was my very first compound bow! It was state of the art in it's day. lol I gave it to a neighbor's kid hoping he would get into the sport. He didn't and I regret not having it!
Yeah I have loaned it to a lot of people who were just starting out in archery and wanted to try it to see if they like it before investing a ton of money but I always made sure I got it back! It was the first bow I killed a deer with!
