Curious, how many smoke cigs while hunting? I have a hard time not lighting up for more than 3 hours at most before I start acting like a crackhead... hunt the wind smoking doesn't matter?

I've seen deer skirt a hunter who had been smoking
and I've watched a hunter shoot a deer that walked down wind of him while he was smoking.

It's a nasty, expensive habit that I'm glad I never got.

A lot of movement smoking it's like you are waving at the deer.

smoke my e-cig in the blind and I don't think it has ever alerted deer of my presence.

I am actually starting to think that the sweet smell may attract them.

Don't mean to offend anyone but many times I wish smokers could smell themselves. If the human nose is repulsed by the smell, imaging what a deer can smell. Your residual scent signature in the woods is greatly amplified . We need to keep more hunters on our side ......please quit.

Can't go 3 hours without lighting a cigarette... Sorry to be blunt but there are bigger issues you should worry about than if you can smoke while hunting or not.

Bottom line - Don't do it while hunting.

Dad died from lung cancer 2 years ago... I will never stop telling people how it is with smoking after watching what he went through. Quit. Quit. Quit.

Quit smoking and your problem is solved. That being said I have a buddy that shot a small 100 inch buck last year and a small buck this year while he was smoking......and both of them came downwind of him. I myself am a huge scent control guy and when I hear stories like that makes me wonder if its worth being so scent free. lol I guess he's never seen a mature buck while hunting either though

I agree with you guys, it certainly is a nasty expensive habit and would love to quit, as you know easier said than done.

I use to be one of those anal scent guys. The kind that sprayed down with scent killing spray...had special soaps and such (I was delusional). Man...I would get so agitated showering, spraying, not wearing clothes in the truck etc etc.....then Dad would light up a cigarette up wind of me while I'm strapping on my harness or gearing up. Haha.

    "anal scent"....hahaha...I just realized that.....and I ain't changing it. :-)

I plan on starting smoking when I am 65 camel straights, hopefully I will still be bowhunting if I have to use a crossbow at that point I will. Figure I could mount a cup holder on the stock.

One of the guys that I guided with started dipping at 12 too. When he was 32 he had to take off a week of guiding to have a corner of his tongue cut off. Glad that I didn't start that habit.

I have chewed since I was 16, I tried to quit a few times and was sent to town to get a tin because I was such an a-hole. The guy who had to get part of his tongue cut off, did he wait till the stitches were out before he had a dip?

His doctor recommended that he start smoking because it was easier to give that up.

I hate to admit that I'm a smoker, but I purposely leave my cigarettes in the truck when I'm hunting to avoid the temptation of lighting up.

I'd leave them in the truck and then sell the truck!

I'm not a smoker but I know of hunters (some on this forum) who have smoked on stand and have shot a number of big bucks doing it. I think a deer would be much less alarmed at the scent of a cigerette than a persons body odor. It may even make them a little curious.
