I cleared some stuff and now have a 18 yard indoor shot to keep me busy in the off season. I will set up some type of back board as well, but I was wondering what the best big target for the money is? The 48'' block is $900, so that's not going to happen. But is there anything 30" or more say in the $200-300 range? Thanks in advance.
Morrell Outdoor Range bags have treated me really well. I've had the same one since 2006 or so in my basement range. There was a point in time I was shooting 1000 arrows a week into this thing and it's still in good shape. Every 6 months or so I pull it down, stomp on it a few times, and rehang facing the opposite direction. I had another one at my Dad's house that I did the same with that lasted probably 10 years until I ended up having to throw a new cover on. Unfortunately my father threw it out when he moved a few months ago otherwise it would still be in action.
I just bought a blemished Rinehart Booner buck. It is great! I also have their 18-1. Its a solid target for sure! Suppose that doesn't really help you on the search for a big square target. :p
I have a Rinehart block that I got a few years ago for Christmas. It has been in the elements since the day I got it and is just as good as new. It has taken thousands and thousands of shots from field points and maybe 100 from broadheads. I don't remember how much it was but I know it was under $200. If I was forced to buy another target, I would buy the same one again and again.
If you feel like putting the time in to make a target http://archeryreport.com/2011/04/diy-lifetime-archery-target/ is a pretty good set of plans. I made mine with plastic chicken wire instead which I would not recommend doing.
I'd give walkonarchery.com a look too... you can pm stickandstringarchery if you need more info on them.
This and contact "Third Hand Archery" as they have 4'X4' covers for sale. Mine has done just fine for the past 5 years and it sits outside all of the time.
No, unless you are shooting broadheads. Most of the time the wire just bends (like that straggler in the pic).
That big Morell range bag looks the best - $175 it's a bit much though, wish I could find something similar cheaper.
Think Ill be trying to make one when I get home then! Hope I have enough old clothes laying around haha
X2. I still have the same bag from 2008 based on a recommendation from Matt. For FPs, I think it's hard to beat. The higher price tag is worth it in the long run, imho.
$105 with free shipping on Amazon It lasts a VERY long time, mine is well over 10 years old and still going strong!
I didn't, but have a ready supply of cardboard. So I built a 2x12 box, front and back are chicken wire, packed (and bulging) with card board. I also have a backstop of carpet backed by planks 6' behind.
