so I was just browsing watching some new huntings vids and I must have seen at least 40 bad shots on a deer were the guy was like I smoked it but the one that pushed me over the edge to write and ask this was a guy and his buddy have a show there filming here in Illinois and its before light or camera light and he shoots this deer in the neck knowingly and then acts like he smoked it now ive been hunting for 15 years and I will not take a bad shot knowingly on any animal thats just unethical to me so I just wanted to know your guys thoughts on this and would you shoot a deer in the neck and act like it was a great shot just cause it was a big buck or would you wait for the best ethical shot you could possibly take ? this is the video link with the neck shot deer I was talking about what do you think ? https://youtu.be/S6G4Nq8_R9c heres the link sorry
Link didn't work and your title is iffy. I don't think they are promoted. However on some shows you need to "get it done" to keep an audience.
that just an excuse to me I'm sorry bowhuntordie doesn't shoot deer in the neck knowingly and they seem to keep an audience explain that to me ?
I couldn't watch it the guy is such a tool. He reminds me of someone but just can't figure out who. I agree a neck shot is not one I'm willing to take on a health deer but it can be a fatal shot if done right. I shot one in 07 with a broken leg in the neck but he wasn't moving to fast. I took out both lungs and the heart he went about 20 yards.
How did you shoot a deer in the neck and take out both lungs and the heart? You mean you took them out when you gutted it right? Otherwise it doesn't make much sense to me Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
"The only shot I had was a neck shot, so I took it". Total idiot Even without the bad shot, that show is un-watchable!
That show what about all the others you see on TV? (not ripping on the BHOD crew at all, they are online and engage and answer questions and don't act like d-bags.
I often wonder why guys on shows are so impatient. There are a ton of hard quartering to shots that could be avoided if they would wait 10 more seconds. It really is disturbing to know that new hunters might think these "pros" are taking a good shot.
I think that is what bugs me the most about hunting shows, the young quiver sniffers emulating what they see on TV.
Pressure to get it on film is a motivating factor them to get the first shot that they can. I get mad watching these videos...we all have made bad shots before but you are just asking for trouble when your starting by taking a bad angle or risky shot as well. Of course it always ends with, "I wasn't too sure of the shot so we backed out and will go back in the morning."
If I ever get so arrogant where I think people want to watch me drive my truck down the road please kill me.
Wow. I hunted one time this year with a guy who made a bad shot on a deer. He "tried to sneak it through some twigs cause i wasnt gonna let another buck that big walk by without shooting". His words. The arrow hit a limb and deflected catching guts and one lung. It was a fatal shot but after tracking for 400 yds he hired a dog that tracked for 400 more until it came to the mississipi river. The deer swam off the island to the mainland on to private ground, or more likely drowned. I havent spoke to him since that trip.
I watched one today while getting ready for work. Guy clearly hit it in upper leg. Deer runs off with arrow still in it. When they finally showed him with the deer after recovery, the hole was back almost to be a liver shot. Don't know if it was same deer or not. That kind of stuff irritates me Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
Woodsman is referring to a chest/neck shot. So a deer facing you and blowing through the neck into the chest cavity. This guy I believe took a neck shot on deer that was pretty much broadside by the looks of it.
