I read an article about Elite bows, the critic said Elite needs to up their game, they don't have a speed bow. They may have one that will reach 345, but that is slow compared to other brand names....I just laughed out loud because I really don't see how 345 is slow. Now, of course this is coming from a dude who has a 27" draw and the best I ever saw was 300 fps and that was voiding my warranty!! I just bought a parker ultralite 30 and it maybe zipping my arrows at a blazing 270 fps at best. So I don't even look at speed when I buy a bow...so my question is, is 345 really considered chump change these days? I see some of the advertisements for 360...Back about 6-8 years ago 345-350 was the mark to hit. So has it moved up? I have not paid attention to what is fast these days. wow, 345 not fast huh? geez, what is fast then?
I don't care if someone wants to shoot a speed bow, have it. I gave that up many years ago. I just can't believe that were are now saying 345 is subpar. Gosh I remember when 300 was unheard of. Back in the day I was shooting 3" overdraws and hitting around 260 and I was the cool kid on the block!! lol here is another very good article on the subject...fascinating http://www.outdoorlife.com/features/chasing-speed-fastest-compound-bow/
lol!! the old plunger rest!! the shoot through prong style rests...big log easton xx!! Thunderheads 125 gr..finger tabs!! Treebark! ahh....walk down memory lane......
I beg your pardon, I still shoot those logs and love them. lol With my 501gr log @ 250fps, I'm talking 69.5 ft lbs of KE. This means a thumping.
It's all good. Believe it or not, I have shot Easton XX75s for about 30 some years now. Yes, aluminum can bend, but they can't blow up on you. lol
I guess I suck sending my arrow down range at less than 300 fps. I will take my results over what a magazine says I need to do any day.
Funny the youngsters get all caught up on speed, the experienced hunters walk down the hill to see all the cows, the youngsters run down the hill to see one.
I've never shot a bow through a chrono and most likely never will. Speed is at the bottom of my list.
3rd on the list isn't a bad place to consider speed, a speed bow can send a heavy arrow better than a slow bow.
my last 3 bows all shot between 275-285 fps. I was/am still able to use just one pin out to 25 yards, which for my area is more than I will ever need.
