Hey everyone well I put this season's first public land buck down he's not a monster but a trophy to me I thought he was a main Frame typical 8 when he came in turns out he's a non typical 12 point he's taken off a piece of public land here in northeastern illinois I've been hunting these 2 bucks for 4 years now finally layed one down after hunting his rub line for 6 days he came in I gave him a great shot he ran maybe 65 yards and tipped over my biggest deer to date and off public land now I'm chasing the other buck which is a 8 pointer hopefully I can put him down to after my 4 year quest of these 2 bucks and only being able to hunt public land well here's the pics let me know what you guys think.
I sent the jaw bone out to see how old he is cause I first layed eyes on him at the end of the 2011 2012 season so I know he's at least 4 years old here's his rub I hunted for 6 days
I know it does thanx alot you guys yeah it was kinda low light when I shot him I thought and swore he was a 8 point but he wasn't when I got to him after watching him topple over the one side has like a crab claw and the other has these awesome devil horns. I knew I was gona shoot him that day cause I checked my trail cam and he came in trailing a doe from a direction he never travels and he never came back to his bed so he layed down with that doe that night and he came back threw to go to bed the next morning and I was there to stop that lol but the doe came in a 9:17pm on my cam and he came in at 9:21pm with his nose to the ground and never came back threw I shot him right at daylight around 7 am.
Can someone help me out? Where is the public hunting land area in Lake and McHenry counties? I used to hunt on a friends farm in Metropolis, IL but the farm has been sold and the new owners don't like hunters or hunting on the property (vegan hipsters) I know that Chain O' Lakes and Volo Bog allow you to hunt if registration is not full for the day, but is there any other place I can go? I want to take my daughter out for her first bowhunt with dad.
