So I moved my week vacation from the second week of November to the first week....was that the right call?

All the red is days off, so adjust that week up one...

It doesn't matter, Tony. There aren't any deer in New York. :)

Seriously, from what I've been hearing you made the right call considering how far north you are.

I'm seeing mixed messages on my land. No scrapes or rubs. But bucks are defiantly on the move more now. Including hanging with does. I also saw three bucks standing together in my plot. Not sure what to make of all of it.

Any day you can be in the woods is a good day.

It's definitely not a bad move, time will be the teller of it being a good move or not.

I've never taken off the first week, working 4 day weeks helps with that. Take a weekend off, worl 4 days and then 10 days vacation. I just can't get myself to take off that first week. It is the one vacation that I look forward to most, would hate to come back to work knowing I was a bit early.

I used to always do the second week, up to about the 13th or so. Always did very well with that approach. Then one year, deer were chasing heavily in the first few days of November, and things died around November 6th due to high temps. My vacation was not as it should have been. Now, I mix it up by doing several days around November 1, 2 etc., and also several days to include November 7 through 13. My job allows me to take extra days whenever, if I think things are on.

Wish my job was as flexible. I put my vacation request in no later that mid July just because I never know when things pick up or drop off.

Would love to take 2 weeks in a row, but doubt I could ever get that approved. In 3 years when I bump up to 3 weeks I will be goving it a try, if I'm still here

I really think our rut here in NW PA is going to be happening soon. I have scrapes all over. The big boys are starting to come out during day, etc. With our recent cold snap and snow - I'd say first week of November. But then again, PA always seem to close our season right when rut starts to peak up - Nov. 14.

From the 26th to the 6th is the stretch I'm going to spend some vacation days in MN.

You can't go wrong hunting the first week of Nov assuming weather conditions are favorable for deer movement.

I am going to hunt from the 30th of October until November 8th.

Yes, I think your approach is good.

I think you will have it right. I'm in NY as well and upstate (hour north of Albany) and I haven't seen any sign at all yet.

I have a pretty flexible job for time off. I have 6 days left so I'm going to play it by what I see.
Best of luck. Keep us all posted.

I max out at 3 weeks.

I had an old school boss once tell me that nobody should need more than two weeks of vacation. Might as well not have a job if you have more.

No wonder hardly any of the money donated reaches the people it was intended for.
