So I've been looking to micro-tune my bow lately and I came across French Tuning. Has anyone ever done this? If so, what does your shot placement look like out to 40,50,60 yards?

I did this about 40 days ago. Unbelievable results for me.
My shooting is on fire. I will do this every time from now on.
My furthest shots are 64 yards.

Shoot 10 and 20 for your up and down.
I used my 20 yard pin for my left and right for every yardage as I backed up.

Just aim higher with the 20 pin - I shot all the way back to 50 yards.

    I French tuned on a 2 X 2 ft target - I used a 7/8 orange strap for my line.

    PS.
When shooting the up and down (10-20 yards) don't even worry about your left and right - only shoot for the line.
When shooting left and right (20 out to 50) don't even worry about your up and down - only shot for the line.

Once your done - start shooting at small dots - it's unreal, good luck!

I’m not a big fan of tuning your elevation with French tune for several reasons.I will just see if my bareshafts and/or BH’s are hitting the same elevation as my FP’s and adjust the rest until it does.

For the windage I am a HUGE fan of the French tuning. It will set centershot perfectly. Once you got centershot set if you FP’s and BH’s are not hitting the same spot then you have another problem, (spine, cam lean, clearance issue, form issue, etc). You should not move your rest anymore.

I French tune at 5 feet /10 yards. Then I do it again at 20 yards/40 yards.

Yep, I tried it a couple of years ago and it worked well for me....especially for the right/left adjustment.

So I was excited to say the least to French tune my bow tonight after reading all your comments as well as watching a bunch of videos on youtube. The only thing I can say is WHY THE HELL HAVNT I DONE THIS BEFORE!!!! I had to barely move my sight and barely move my rest and it was insane how much tigher my groups got!!!

Here is my 3 yard shot. It took me 3 shots to hit the string!! IMG_5355.jpg

After I hit the string on my 3 yard shot, I backed up to 10 yards and I was shooting to the right. I moved my rest over to the left A HAIR and the second shot I smoked the string!!! IMG_5357.jpg

Then, here is my second shot out to 20. My first shot was just a hair high so I adjusted my sight and like I said, this was my second shot!!! IMG_5360.jpg

I have 8 shots in the whole process to get this dialed in. It was too dark to shoot out to 30, 40, 50 and 60 so that will be tomorrow project. I made a home made arrow square which definitely helped with getting my bow "almost" tuned, but the French tuning was what I needed to finalize it!!!

I love French tuning and use it when I set up all my new bows. But if you really want to "micro tune" a bow you are far from done after just French tuning.

Good on ya...I too like the "Modified" French tune...Modified as when I do it, I will use a bareshaft and a fletched up at 5' as it allows me to yoke tune the bareshaft and field point to hit string at 5'...I found that this really gets your center shot and yokes dialed in...then when you go to broadhead tune you are on.

French have always been good to us...I mean French Bread, French Dressing, French Fries, French Wine, The Statue of Liberty(She's Hot) and now French tuning...thank you French People

Glad to see you got fired up and you are going through the process.
Very cool isn't it. It's also really easy!

    Congrats!

French tuning is better than paper tuning because you get to use your tongue.

Are you guys using your field points or broadheads when French tuning? Or does it matter?

You could possible miss by more than a 1/2 inch margin and still cut the string of you shot broadheads. Completely negates the point of French tuning. Only use field points.

Because of this thread, I also had decided to go a head and french tune my bow today! I am still quite new to archery and any type of tuning but after finding out how easy it is, I couldn't find a reason not to do it!

I didn't have time to do any shooting after tuning so I haven't had the chance to see an end result yet.
