I used to have the Monster 7.0. I thought the bow was great and I practiced out to 100 yards with it. Long story short I sold it and now I'm looking into bows of a similar stature. So my questions for you guys is, if you had a bow you would pick up as used that was about as fast as the monster 7.0 and used it for league/3D what would it be? I am still looking to get another monster 7.0 but I'm curious if there are similar bows out there.
New Nitrum/Spyder Turbos are flamethrowers. 350Fps real speed, not inflated BS, and really pleasant to shoot.
Most 3D clubs/leagues have max IBO speeds. E.g. CCAA who I used to shoot for here in NC had an IBO top speed of 280 with a 3% leeway which came to 288fps. Before taking the range, you had to shoot through a chronograph to ensure you met the requirements. So I definitely wouldn't say that its speed you need to be concerned about if you're looking for a 3D bow - more like axel to axel and brace height
I'd say either the Hoyt Podium X Elite or the Mathews TRG 7 would be my first choices for a target bow. My HTR shoots real well at long distance from 60 yards out to 100.
If you spend time around guys that are really at the top of the 3D game in Pro and Semi Pro classes, they are rarely shooting speed bows. Most that aren't restricted by the 280fps ASA rules are still only shooting a fatter line cutter arrow in the 290-310 range. It's pretty easy to accomplish this with most any bow these days, so it seems most of the truly elite 3D guys I've been around are setting up bows that are very forgiving with a 35-40" ATA and 7-8" brace height. I haven't shot anything competitively for several years but if I were to get back into 3D or Field archery I'd be looking hard at the new BowTech Fanatic. If I didn't want to buy brand new I'd be looking for a Specialist. I had one in 2012 and it was an amazing target specific bow that was plenty fast.
chilly, have you shot the Wake? I did this past weekend, and let me tell you it's one big and heavy bow. I don't think the Wake lends itself to long periods of practice and precise shooting unless your over 6' and weight #200+. Just my $0.02.
I have had several Chill X's (still do) and I am currently shooting a TRG7. The TRG is a sweet shooter but you truly need a draw length of at least 29 to get up to ASA speed without shooting high poundage and light arrows. I don't like to shoot more than #60 bows for 3D. I was blessed with a 30" draw length so I can get ASA speed out of almost anything. The Chill X is a fantastic 3D bow, especially for draw lengths under 29". Just look at how many pros are shooting it this year. I shot one for the first two months before I got my TRG and it's a truly impressive bow. I also hunted with one last year and it's the best hunting bow I have had to date. Basically, it depends on you and how you want to use it... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If I wanted to shoot fast 3D, I'd go to a 3D meet and see what the top 5 entrees shoot. It might be more the shooter than the bow. RC
My spyder turbo is shooting pretty sweet. I have a shorter draw length and shoot heavy arrows but still get decent speeds
