What do you do to strengthen your shoulders, back, etc for shooting your bow? Obviously shooting more strengthens everything, but on top of that.

I upgraded from a 2006 Bear Instinct to a 2013 Bear Method yesterday. My bow from 2006 was set at 55lbs and I could shoot it all day long. I pulled the Bear Method back about 15 times at 60lbs yesterday and started getting fatigued (60lbs is lowest it goes). Today the muscles around my rotator cuff/shoulder is damn sore... Pretty sure its the deltoid? I do work in an office all day long so dont get much physical activity but I do 50-75 push-ups every day.

So... What can I do to strengthen my shoulders, back, etc?

this isn't for pulling your bow but running the treadmill in the most inclined position is awesome preparation for any hunting. helps you so you don't get sweated up when you get to the stand or so you can climb the hills easier and many other things.

I work on a Golden Plump chicken barn as well... Always carrying 5 gallon buckets full of dead chickens. Seems like its my deltoid and outside shoulder.

Going to check out those options ctrupp - Thanks!

I do the work outs that ctrupp sent, and it really does help and push ups and sit ups, because as you most likely know you need to bad able to sit down and pull your bow back easy so yea I would work out and shoot sitting down too. it really doesn't take much time to get there, be there before you know buddy

At the end of your pushup workout do some planks. Those work your core and also help stabilize your delts. And to top it off, just buy a pair of 40 and 50 pound dumbbells and start doing some dumbbell rows for 3 sets of 10 or so. You will be up to speed in no time.

Push ups, pull ups, front raises with 10-15 lb is a good start.... OH, and shoot as much as possible, just start with a manageable DW and you will see you will be able to increase your weight pretty soon.

If you have a gym membership there are a bunch of exercises for your back and shoulders, but if that is not an option add pull-ups to your push up routine. You can get a pull-up bar almost anywhere it seems, and it will workout your entire back.

12 to 18 inch piece of surgical tubing attached to a handle at each end... then just pull it back as you would your bow... 20-25 reps 2-3 times a day does wonders...

Where on your shoulder does it hurt? And did it hurt during the shooting or only the next day? I ask because part of my job is helping to rehab bad shoulders. The exercise suggestions you are getting from the other guys are great if you are healthy. They are terrible if you are injured.

Well I feel like an idiot... Had the shop check it out and it was set at 70lbs.

Backed down to 60 and its smooth as butter.
