My fiance is getting into bowhunting this coming year, she is going to be shooting around 35-40 pounds. what broadheads are the best for a lower pound bow like that?

Slick tricks, muzzys, g5, dirtnap gear, basically any fixed blade heads.

muzzy 90gr. 3 blade. I personally would stay away from any mechanicals at that low poundage. fixed blades that are light. I think that 75gr. might be too light and not have enough kinetic energy to penetrate. JMO

also I think I wouldn't let her shoot at deer more than 25 yds away.

Any fixed blade broached will do the trick. My wife shoots a 40 pound bow with 125 grain 3 blades and it does the exact same thing my setup does!

At that poundage I would ONLY consider COC fix blade heads.

Check out the QAD Exodus. They are a short broadhead that sits over the shaft and that small profile will help alot with penetration. Big thick durable blades and they are silent in flight. I have switched over to them shooting 65lbs and will be setting up my little brothers 45lb Hoyt with some too

My wife shoots Magnus buzzcuts. She has gotten pass through shots on 4 deer with them. They fly well and have a lifetime warranty also. I can't say enough good things about them

I love QAD Exodus heads but might consider a two blade cut on contact (COC) head if I shot weight that low. Two blades penetrate great at lower weights/slower speeds and why so many trad shooters prefer them.

I like either dirt nap or Magnus buzzcuts for low poundage.

What's the minimum legal poundage? I thought it was 45?
Anyway, I would stay away from mechanicals.

I agree. Mechanicals needs kinetic energy to open and penetrate.. I would stick with fixed blades and the heavier the better. That light of a draw would need maximum weight to "punch thru" the target. I would also limit her shot distance to 20, 25 yards. The further you shoot, the less energy you have for penetration. Keep her practicing as much as you can and the muscles she used for drawing a bow will get stronger and hopefully she could go up in draw weight.

Try the DRT broadheads. Super sharp, easy to re-sharpen, fly like fp's.

Glad these are getting more popular. If the op wants to try them out they sell test heads for $13, spin tested and ready to shoot. Ive got the best penetration on these out of all the the bh I've used so they would defiantly be good for low poundage

A quick search of the Wisconsin hunting regulations shows 30# is the minimum for deer. At least in 2014 it was.

Agreed. Both of my nephews are set up with Stinger Buzzcuts.
