A friend found this is her yard. I didn't see it in person...but she says those are long teeth up top sticking out. The fur is making me say deer but facebook comments are mentioning horse. Any thoughts?

From the remaining coat I would say deer as well but those teeth are interesting.

Yeah, that's where I'm at. Would a disease or injury possibly cause it?

My first thought was deer, then I thought...something looks off about it to be a deer so I thought harder and looked a few dozen more times. Then I looked at it even harder and thought, could be a pig skull.

Then I looked a few more times and it hit me.
It's a deer, specifically a bucks skull. You can see where someone cut the skull cap and antlers off right behind the eye sockets. That's why it looks off, part of it is missing. There are no long teeth, I don't see long teeth and can't see what was mistaken as long teeth?

Deer don't have upper incisors. Horses do. That skull does not appear to have upper incisors. Fur+cut skull +no upper front = cervid. :)

I'm with Covey. I also don't see teeth sticking out but see the end of the nose "bone" on the skull.

I agree with covey also....however there have been documented cases of upper canines in deer. Very rare.....but it happens

I looked at the picture, and it looks like the bone that is sticking out may be a set of teeth. It's an odd picture, for sure - but just had me wondering.

Here is another angle, though not much different.

    Thanks for the different inputs.

The white bone sticking out that looks like it might be upper front teeth is just the exposed portions of the maxillary/premaxillary bone. It does look kind of like teeth but they're not. :) It's just a deer.

Side note: I did once shoot a buck that had canines. They were very, very small. It still didn't have any upper incisors.

I agree the skulls been cut but it looks a little big and compare it to a euro mount of a deer in that region and then go from there. I also agree hair looks deer it's just a little bit different.

Not really anything in the pic for size reference. But I can't think of any other PA animal that has anglers in top of their head. And if the animal doesn't have antlers, why cut the skull cap off in the first place.
