Hi - Have just booked my first Elk/Bear hunt in Alberta, Canada (actually, first hunt outside my homebase of Northern Europe). I've been told that I will have to deal with wet weather (nothing new) and very wet grass/brush - but, also that I would suffocate in my Gore Tex pants. Ahh - now what ? I'm looking for input as to what set of pants would be the best for the conditions: Walking long stretches though possible very wet brush and tall grass - and then have to do a quiet stalk. I would be very grateful for your insights, input and information on this topic (especially since I need to stay under 50lb of total luggage weight for the plane and will be limited in what I can bring. Will absolutely have a look at the suggested pants. They look more water resistant that water proof - is that the normal way to do it? We normally just wear Gore Tex from October to February - it's either pouring down og storming.
Yes for the most. I tend to save my gortex for when steady rain. Otherwise I can get buy just outwear that is some what water repellent

I have a pair of Filson Mackinaw pants ... Great for sitting in the stand in the late winter or still hunting deer in December....but for early-season September elk ... You will sweat to death
Yep, I'm a filson *****.... But it only comes out when it's really cold. I'll probably be getting some Sitka gear this year as well.
Also don't forget the weather here in early Sept and Octob, can be very warm +20c or mid 70's drops to single digits at nite. The tall grasses are what get you wet, I just get wet and dry off during the afternoon. It's not too too bad if you can stand being wet at all. Rocky
Rocky, thanks. Sounds reasonable. I will have a cosy lodge to dry out in, and with som wool longjohns - it should be fine. Being wet is normal here in Denmark. Unfortunately.
What area of Alberta will you be hunting? I plan on hunting north of the Grand Prairie area the last week of September. Make sure you are in shape, some areas of Alberta can be high altitude and steep compared to Denmark. Hunting the hill country and Rocky Mountains can be big changes in elevation several times a day. I use KUIU Attack pants, they are great, but come at a price..... Some say you should buy a size larger than you normally wear, I got large, but could have got away with a medium.... That said, I am still very happy with them.
