I notice a lot of guys getting new bows this off season.. So it got me to thinking, how often do you buy a new bow? I have buddies with more money then sense who buy the latest greatest fastest newest tech bow and accessories they can get every year.. I on the other hand tend to keep a bow a min of 5 years before upgrading..been bowhunting 40+ years and have only owned 8 bows maybe... so how often do you buy a new bow? What drives your purchase? Please tell me you do your research and don't just buy what your TV hero shoots..lol Another question do you feel bow technology has just about topped out? I feel manufacturers should not only be focusing on the bows but the arrows as well. If your bow shoots 400fps but no one makes arrows for it what are you going to shoot?
I usually buy a few bows every year, mostly the current years bows although I pick them up used. For example this year all the bows I buy are 2014 and 2015's

My question to you guys who buy multiple bows....why do you need more than say 2? (having a backup isn't a bad idea)
This isn't the site to be around come new bow releases...as many here are "bow *****s" (and no that isn't a bad thing fellas). I have shot 3 bows in my life and only paid for one, other two were 'hand-me-downs'. The one I did pay for is the one I still use, Mission Venture. I'll probably have it this year but perhaps 2016 I'll maybe be able to justify spending the money on one.

I'll keep a bow for 5-7 years. I can't see having several bows, or buying a new one every year, especially when a good one is the $1000 range. I like to get to know my hunting bow, and shoot it accurately. This gives me a confidence that was built over time, then my bow becomes sentimental to me. This makes me want to keep it longer. I do think the tech in these newer bows has pretty much hit it's peak. They're really just changing styles/looks anymore.
I concur with the last sentence overall if you made a bell curve out of the performances we are dang near at the peak of overall performance...making me keep holding off from buying a replacement for my Venture each of the past few years...just nothing blew my mind. Now I'm thinking I'll probably get a year old one.
I bought a Mathews Switchback over ten years ago, and a new NO Cam HTR this year. So I tend to keep my hunting bows until there's a significant technological advancement that would warrant me getting a new one. I like where Hoyt is going with its Carbon Spyder 30 and ZT models. When somebody figures out how to make a 3.5lb bow where the dampening is built into the frame instead of needing a whole bunch of rubber doodads hanging off the limbs I'll jump on that. I do think a backup rig is a nice thing to have though.
Spend any amount of time on here and you'll see just how much people need to "keep up with the Joneses" by buying a new bow ever year and then trying to sell the old bows. If you have a LOT of expendable income, I guess its probably not a big deal. Though I suspect many people doing this don't have 6-digit salaries and don't have 6-digit 401Ks. A lesson to be learned in several decades when one faces retirement, eating Ramen noodles and reminiscing about those bows you used to own. I had my first bow for 6 years, now I'm on year #3 for my "new" bow. Dont plan on buying another anytime soon.
I kept my last bow for 5 years. Only because I couldn't find one I liked better. I shoot all the new bows every year, if one jumps out and me I will upgrade at any time. If bow hunting is your hobby the. I see nothing wrong with a new bow every year.
As too how many bows I keep it depends. I always have two bows going into a hunting season. For me hunting season starts in sept typically and runs to early dec. I like to make sure I have a back up tuned and ready to go.
Trial how is his post asinine? I don't suspect you to be in the type that middle spot describes, but it is amusing how some people feel they must have the new bow...put that $1,000 into a Roth IRA for 20 years straight and you'll have a ton more to show for it. I have to listen to that logic more myself, so I get it...it is a forcing game on myself to get me to think past tomorrow and into 40-60 years out.
Yes that's great, we can carry that over to a hundred other things beside bows that people waste their disposable income on. None of it is germane to what we were talking about. Do you really think that it's necessary in the confines of what we were talking about in this post to turn this into a discussion on ways to spend out disposable income. And from what I seen this is typical of his posts.
