For those that have done a hog skull euro mount i have a question for you. Once youve cleaned the skull down, separated the jaw bones, boiled it, etc....how are yall going about reattaching the lower jaw to the rest of the skull to display? Im sure its a simple fix, but the euros ive done before were deer, so i never had to worry about it. Thanks in advance guys!

Most taxis are just going to use a clear two part epoxy to do this. (glue the two parts back together and then glue at hinge point) You can also use very small finish screws at the hinge point and a drill bit, or if you'd like the jaw moveable it can be done with wire as well) Boiling really isnt the best way and if you do, be sure not to boil but barely simmer. The more heat you put to it the more grease will get into the bone causing a harder time degreasing and ultimately a skull that will never get as white even after whitening. Check out the skull section on Taxidermy Net and do a search for more info. Maceration is really the way to go especially on a hog, if you do not have access to beetles.

My euros don't have the lower jaw, which I like because it's more flush to the plac.

For deer that is pretty typical but hog, bear, lion, yote, etc... most folks want the lower jaw. All about preference. Personally even without the lower jaw most everything I do, with a rack, gets mounted at a 45deg angle. I like the antlers to be upright and IMO gives a better display. Of course some plaques will give you this regardless.....

A hard boil will allow any grease to aborb into the skull which causes darkening and often a blotchy appearance (can also do damage to the bone itsef especially on younger specimen). Sometimes you can get it removed my soaking in dawn and warm water for a few days while changing the solution each day (this should be done regardless of the chosen cleaning method....) A slow simmer just enough to loosen the meat is really the best option for the fastest results. Maceration will provide MUCH better final product but takes a lil more time and can be a lil stinky lol. You will get MUCH whiter skulls with even just a 3% peroxide soak by doing this.

Personally, im not a fan of the BRIGHT white. My preference is a shade or so brighter than the natural bone color, again just my preference. But i use the simmer technique.....bc im impatient about getting them done haha.

Still can't decided if I want the mouth to be open or not. I think if it's tusk where bigger and not broken/ ground off I would. But first one and chance maybe only one so figures I would do it instead of regretting I didn't later.
