Most of the taxidermists I have used in GA charge around $450 and take less then 6 months.. The one I use in KY is about the same and he does awesome work... The buck I killed this year in GA with my bow on Oct 5th was taken to a taxi I have never used[on the recommendation of a friend]He is supposed to be a real artist and really pay a lot of attention on detail... The only real draw back he takes an avg of one full year...He charges $525.. So what is the avg cost and length of time for a mount in your area?
I also think one of the reason this new guy takes a year+ is he also is a deer processor so he doesn't get started on mounts till season ends..
I have had two done, First was a friend of a friend for $350 and it took about 7 Months. My second I am getting done now, $400 and about 7 Months as well. $400 seems just below average in MI
I really thought my Brother was the only one crazy enough to still live there.. At least he still lives in the real Michigan not the lower LP...LOL
The guy I use won 1st place at the national taxidermist show some years ago with a full body deer mount. Shoulder mount cost $550 and takes a year.
$500-575 depends on which of the two guys I take it to and price that year. Only two true artist-taxidermists I have in my area....I know quite a few that do decent or average work for the $300 range but man they don't age well on the walls.
Thanks! I ended up finding someone through another Taxidermist in MI. Cant wait for the McKenzie 6900 Semi Sneak!
I've seen prices from 250-600... As far as wait times go, if they don't have a wait I wouldn't let them do mine. There's a reason good taxidermists are backed up.
The guy I use is in CT. $600 and 10-12 months. he has a wall of trophies and awards. he was the president of NE taxidermy association. worth the wait and $. there are other guys closer who charge less, but there work is awful.
I cannot second this fast enough. Guys with no wait have no wait for two reasons only.....new or are no good. Now granted some guys out there are very skilled at it and do it on the DL or side style thing. But for full fledge businesses if they don't have a wait time longer than say 5 or 6 months I would look elsewhere. Also I'd ask to see multiple mounts that are 5 or 10 years old when reviewing a taxidermists work.....age is when quality begins to separate.
