So Saturday I went to go hunting on our private land. Walked in to find my brand new rivers edge bigfoot XL hang on stand gone, along with my trail cam. They also took the top section of my climbing sticks. I hate people. What kind of theft deterrent systems to people use on their stands to prevent theft. I guess I never thought I would of had to lock it up. Stupid thieves... Thanks

My stand goes in on my back and comes out on my back, only way it will get stolen is out of my vehicle or house.

Hate to say it but if you leave it on public land expect it to be gone.

If I leave one in a spot I think it might get stolen I'll pull the bottom two sticks. Thieves are lazy and if they have to work at it most wont do it.

He did say it was on private land not public. I have heard lots of stories of stands getting stolen off of public land. The private ones are what bugs me the most. Even more so when its your own land that you put every spare dime into. That just gets my goat.

    He was on private.
I hang stands on public land, I do put a cable on it and remove the 2 lowest climbing sticks.

But I also caught them on sale at Walmart, $30 for those ameristep hang ons.
I've used it a lot this year and the sticks I leave are the heavy steel ones that go for about 12 bucks each.
Figure if it gets lifted I'm out $60 max, now I divided that by the times I've used it and just figure that to be what I'd pay someone to pack it in and hang it for me .

Sorry about your stand, people are ignorant bastards.

My bad, I would be pissed as hell if it was on private land, even more so on my land.

I hunt private land and my uncle has lived there for decades, only a few neighbors and most of which are his family.

All that being said some of his neighbors do have people come in to hunt, I don't think they are shady but I opted to pull the lone wolf and sticks rather than leave them out. I just felt that if anything might sway someone it would be value. Left the cheap stand that's been there for several years.

Cable locks or chains would be the way to go, but thieves will get whatever they want if they want it bad enough. I've heard of people having smaller trees cut down just above their camera locks and sliding lock and all off.

^THIS^ Buy the thickest chain and the biggest padlock you can to secure it to the tree. Me and the landowner had two stands and two cameras stolen this year (On Private Property) and we are taking these steps and hanging cameras high in trees to prevent any more thefts. It SUCKS, but is necessary now a days!

thanks guys yeah it really makes you start to question family. I know I shouldn't go pointing fingers without proof. Their is about 4 family members that rifle hunt this property. All said they had no idea where my stand was hanging. Either way live and learn.

Been were you have been several times with both stands and cameras. The frustration level is just off the charts when something like this happens. That being said we have went to grade 8 chain and heavy padlocks. If they get them they will work for them.

Lets be honest if you leave a treestand in the woods no matter how well you secured it if they want it they will get it. I have now started using the lone wolf ez hang system and just take my treestand with me. i also pull the bottom stick and leave the rest there. Trail cameras i havent found a way to keep them from getting stolen. I put them in security boxes lag them to the tree and put a python cable thru it and pray its there when i go to check it
