This albino buck was taken by a bowhunter near Cape Girardeau, MO. The buck, for the most part, lived in the city limits where hunting is not allowed. He's became quite a legend in the area. You would commonly see people pulled over on the side of the road snapping pictures or just watching him. It's caused a firestorm in the local community. The hunter said he knew it would be controversial but didn't expect this much attention. Knowing the popularity of this deer in the community, would you have taken him if given the opportunity? Hence the PROBABLY part. Couldn't tell for sure from the one pic. Still not enough antler for me to qualify or justify the complications given.

Being a local to the area, I probably wouldn't have taken the shot. If this buck was in the boondocks where not many people knew about him, I wouldn't hesitate at all. But this deer was extremely popular in the area and I knew killing him would garner a lot of negative attention. I don't want to be a part of that, especially with owning a business in the area. Additionally, there have been ballot measures to allow bowhunting in the Cape Girardeau city limits and it's come close to passing once or twice. Now, I bet that's off the table for the foreseeable future. I don't know the hunter, Jerry, personally, but I do congratulate him. He's a buck of a lifetime for sure!
Wouldn't the darker eyes and brown patch of fur on the bucks head make this buck a piebald and not an albino? Oh, and yes, I'd shoot.
I think the brown patch on his head due to the rut...gland secretion and possibly rubbing. Here's a pic from a couple years ago just after he shed his velvet.
Greg sent me a pic, that morning early.... we talked about how we would both be keeping it on the low low low..... sure didnt take long for it to get around as I think it was only a couple of hours before I saw it on FB and less than 24 before I was reading an article. Deer of a lifetime for sure, I'd have shot at my place... I would not have posted or sent pics to anyone other than a select few though. Certainly wouldnt have posted it to FB
I've heard a lot of negative comments about it so far, and feel that they are completely ridiculous. The worst part is that there are several hunters that have said some pretty low things about killing this deer. I would've shot it in a heartbeat. Way too many bleeding hearts out there thinking that a singular wild deer should be off limits because they like to see it every once in awhile. Get over it people. The deer can't live forever. At least it will be mounted instead of left to rot after dying of old age.
I was going to post that I would keep it out of the news, but, assuming you'd have taxidermy work done, I think that would almost be impossible. Someone would see it and tell someone else, who would tell someone else and eventually word would get out and the local news crew would show up at the taxidermist looking for the scoop.
